Dragonflight Marksmanship Hunter DPS Guide

Marksmanship Hunter Overview

A ranged DPS specialization called Marksmanship Hunter emphasizes long-range, sluggish gameplay with brief bursts of incredibly high damage that are delivered fast. Marksmanship is the specialty for you if you prefer to eliminate your opponents from a distance with well-planned, potent shots while concentrating on moving as little as possible.

Marksmanship Hunter Stats

Agility is your primary stat, found on mail gear. Agility increases your attack power and damage done on all abilities.

For secondary stats, Marksmanship Hunter has the following:

  • Weapon DPS >>> Agility >> Mastery >= Critical Strike >> Versatility > Haste
  • Critical Strike: Critical Strike is a strong stat for us due to Master Marksman. A couple of different factors such as  Improved Kill Shot Rank 2 and  Master Marksman play a major role.
  • Haste: Haste speeds up everything about our rotation, including Focus generation, Aimed Shot charge generation, and casts. While it isn't necessarily bad, other stats are typically better to aim for.
  • Mastery: Mastery is generally our best stat, affecting almost all of our relevant damage.
  • Versatility: Increases all the damage you do, and reduces all damage taken. A decent stat to have that also provides a bit of survivability.

Marksmanship Hunter Phials

Overall, the best pure DPS Phial for Marksmanship Hunters is  Iced Phial of Corrupting Rage for single-target/raiding scenarios.

However, there is a damage component to this Phial, and in cases where you are worried that this will kill you, use  Phial of Tepid Versatility instead. Dying is a bigger DPS loss than any Flask will gain you, and because of this,  Phial of Tepid Versatility is a more common and safe pick.

Marksmanship Hunter Combat Potions

There are a couple different potions that have different useful scenarios for Marksmanship Hunters:

Marksmanship Hunter Weapon Buff

For their weapons, Marksmanship Hunters will always use  Completely Safe Rockets.

Best Marksmanship Hunter Gems

You'll want to use one  Skillful Illimited Diamond, and  Sensei's Neltharite in the rest of your gem slots.

Beast Mastery Hunter Rotation Priority

Marksmanship Hunter Opener

  1. Pre-cast  Aimed Shot around 2.25 seconds before the fight begins.
  2. Cast two  Steady Shots to activate  Steady Focus.

Marksmanship Hunter Single-Target Rotation and Priority

Marksmanship Hunter rotation will follow a priority system that focuses on maximizing certain resources. In simple terms, you will dump your Focus using  Aimed Shot and  Arcane Shot and generate your Focus using  Steady Shot and  Rapid Fire. You want to always be casting something. Below is a priority rotation you should strive to follow.

  1. Use  Steady Shot to apply and maintain the  Steady Focus buff. You should prioritize refreshing by casting two  Steady Shots only when you would have cast one of them naturally, as part of your rotation, and there is less than five seconds left on the buff. Do not bother with refreshing during  Trueshot.
  2. Use  Kill Shot on cooldown.
  3. Use  Death Chakram on cooldown
  4. Apply and maintain the  Serpent Sting DoT on your target. If you are using  Serpentstalker's Trickery, skip this.
  5. Use  Steel Trap on cooldown.
  6. Use  Rapid Fire on cooldown.
  7. Use  Trueshot on cooldown. This is your main cooldown and you should take care to only use it when you can stand still for most of its duration. Save it for burst or add periods on fights.
  8. Use  Aimed Shot on cooldown. You should never let it reach 2 charges. Even during  Trueshot.
  9. Cast two  Steady Shots in succession, if  Steady Focus has less than five seconds remaining.
  10. Use  Arcane Shot to spend  Precise Shots stacks, and as a filler when you have above 55 Focus.
  11. Use  Steady Shot when you have nothing else to do.

Marksmanship Hunter Multi-Target Rotation and Priority

Our AoE rotation is almost identical to our single-target rotation, with the added requirement of having  Trick Shots up for every  Aimed Shot or  Rapid Fire cast. For this, we assume that you have chosen the  Multi-Shot and  Trick Shots chosen, as otherwise the rotation would be identical to the single-target one.

  1. Use  Death Chakram on cooldown.
  2. Use  Volley on cooldown.
  3. Use  Wailing Arrow on cooldown.
  4. Before casting  Aimed Shot or  Rapid Fire, you should always ensure that the  Trick Shots Talent is activated by casting  Multi-Shot on 3 or more targets.
  5. Use  Rapid Fire on cooldown. Make sure that  Trick Shots is active.
  6. Use  Trueshot on cooldown. This is your main cooldown and you should take care to only use it when you can stand still for most of its duration. Save it for burst or add periods on fights.
  7. Use  Aimed Shot on cooldown. Make sure that  Trick Shots is active. You should never let it reach 2 charges. Even during  Trueshot.
  8. Apply and maintain the  Serpent Sting DoT on your target, and as many additional targets as possible while still following this priority.
  9. Use  Multi-Shot to spend  Precise Shots stacks, and as a filler when you have above 55 Focus.
  10. Use  Steady Shot when you have nothing else to do.
