Dragonflight Devastation Evoker DPS Guide

Devastation Evoker Overview

What about dragons? Have you ever imagined what it would be like to soar above your adversaries as lava rains down on them? Do you appreciate the thought of playing a ranged caster with powerful spells that feel more Battlemage-like? You might enjoy Devastation Evoker.

Elite troops known as Dracthyr Evokers combine the characteristics of dragons with the adaptability of mortal races to use the magic of all five dragonflights. Devastation for damage and Preservation for healing are the two specialties of the Evoker.

Devastation Evoker Stats

Devastation Evokers primarily favor Intellect and MasteryHaste and Critical Strike are also good, with Haste slightly ahead in most cases with  Causality

For secondary stats, the Devastation Evoker has the following:

  • Intellect > Mastery > Haste >= Critical Strike > Versatility
  • Mastery: Increases the effectiveness of  Mastery: Giantkiller.
  • Haste: Increases attack speed and spell casting speed.
  • Critical Strike: Chance for extra effectiveness on attacks and heals.
  • Versatility: Increases damage and healing, and reduces damage taken.

    Devastation Evoker Phials

Overall the best phial for Devastation Evokers is  Iced Phial of Corrupting Rage, assuming that you don't consistently trigger the downside.  Phial of Elemental Chaos is a much safer option that trades the downside for a bit of RNG.  Phial of Tepid Versatility is only slightly behind  Phial of Elemental Chaos but is much cheaper and provides a damage taken decrease.

For Mythic+,  Phial of Glacial Fury is recommended for the best damage but generally  Phial of Tepid Versatility is the best pick since it helps us live.

    Devastation Evoker Weapon Buff

For their weapons, Devastation Evokers want to use  Howling Rune, or lower quality versions to save gold. At some stat levels, Critical Strike can be preferred to Haste.  Buzzing Rune is the Critical Strike version of the same item.

    Best Devastation Evoker Food

    Best Devastation Evoker Gems

It is always best to use sims to decide which gems to use, but generally you want a  Skillful Illimited Diamond with  Keen Neltharite.

    Devastation Evoker Rotation Priority

    Devastation Evoker Opener

    1. Precast  Living Flame then Light of Creation (if you have  Kharnalex, The First Light equipped)
    2. Begin your normal rotation if delaying  Dragonrage
    3. Use  Dragonrage with trinkets.

Important Note: Delayed  Dragonrage on the pull without  Bloodlust
With  Bloodlust on the pull, you can send  Dragonrage right away to get the full benefit of the haste from  Bloodlust.

Because  Tyranny gives the full effect of  Mastery: Giantkiller during  Dragonrage, it is worth it to delay your first  Dragonrage for as long as possible on the pull so long as you maintain the same total uses of  Dragonrage during the encounter if  Bloodlust is not used on the pull. When delaying  Dragonrage be mindful of putting  Eternity Surge and  Fire Breath on cooldown, these abilities should be available for the start of  Dragonrage. If  Eternity Surge or  Fire Breath will be unavailable for the start of  Dragonrage, delay  Dragonrage. The rotation while delaying  Dragonrage is the same as the rotation outside of cooldowns

Devastation Evoker Single-Target Rotation and Priority

    1. Rank 1 Empower  Fire Breath on cooldown, as long as  Dragonrage cooldown is longer than 10 seconds.
    2.  Shattering Star to apply the damage increase debuff on cooldown
    3. Empower  Eternity Surge at rank 1 on cooldown, as long as  Dragonrage cooldown is longer than 15 seconds.
    4. Instant cast  Living Flame with  Burnout. Avoid capping Essence and  Essence Burst over  Burnout
    5. Spend Essence and  Essence Burst on  Disintegrate. You can cast  Disintegrate again after the 3rd tick of  Disintegrate to overlap them without losing damage
    6. Use  Azure Strike on the move
    7. Use  Dragonrage when  Fire Breath and  Eternity Surge are ready, or if the fight has less than 30 seconds left. See opener for  Dragonrage rotation

Devastation Evoker Multi-Target Rotation and Priority

    1. In preparation for AoE, try to quickly build  Charged Blast stacks with  Disintegrate and  Azure Strike.
    2. Use  Dragonrage with stacks of  Charged Blast depending on the length of the pull, it can be worthwhile to hold until 18+ stacks of  Charged Blast.
    3. Empower  Fire Breath on cooldown, usually at max rank. Empower rank depends on target count and how long targets will live. Generally speaking, you can use Rank 1 for 1-2 targets Rank 2 for 3 targets, Rank 3 for 4 targets, Rank 3 (or 4 with  Font of Magic) for 5 targets. For more information, click here.
    4.  Deep Breath at 2 or more targets. Delay your first use for when the lowest target reaches 30% or less health, so long as you get the same amount of total uses since  Tyranny makes it get the full effect of  Mastery: Giantkiller.
    5. Empower  Eternity Surge on cooldown. Empower level depends on targets within 12 yards of the target:
    6. Instant cast  Living Flame with  Burnout and  Leaping Flames if  Essence Burst is not capped at 2 stacks. In  Dragonrage, spend all  Essence Burst and use Essence to give yourself time to avoid capping because  Leaping Flames will provide 2  Essence Bursts.
    7. Use  Pyre in AoE with  Volatility:
    8. Spend  Essence Burst and Essence on  Disintegrate. Target high health targets (50-60% higher health percent than the average health percent of the pack) to make use of  Mastery: Giantkiller and gain  Charged Blast stacks
    9. At 3 or less targets: Instant cast  Living Flame with  Burnout
    10. At 3 or more targets: Cast  Azure Strike with  Protracted Talons
    11. When  Dragonrage is available in less than 10 seconds, stop casting  Pyre. For 3 or more targets, always build 18+ stacks of  Charged Blast for  Dragonrage
    12. When the pull is wrapping up (last 8 or so seconds of AoE), fully empower  Fire Breath to increase the upfront damage at the cost of damage over time.
    13. Avoid casting  Living Flame to save  Leaping Flames for the next pull, if it is happening in 30 seconds or less.
    14. Avoid casting  Pyre to save  Charged Blast for the next pull, if it is happening in 60 seconds or less.
