Assassination Rogue Overview

Assassination Rogue is a Damage-over-Time-focused DPS specialization that uses dual weapons and leather armor. A vast array of cooldowns are added to this potent Nature and Bleed-based damage to further dispatch any adversaries standing in our way. Although we play more slowly than our colleagues Subtlety and Outlaw Rogues due to our Damage-over-Time specialization, don't mistake this for less power.

Assassination Rogue Stats

Agility is our primary stat. It directly increases attack power, which is the base scaling factor of all of our damaging abilities.

In addition to that, we have the following secondary stats that, directly or indirectly, increase damage:

  • Agility > Critical Strike = Mastery > Haste > Versatility
  • Critical Strike: Chance to deal double damage with your attacks. Remember that critical strikes from abilities with direct damage give a combo point via  Seal Fate.
  • Haste: Increases attack speed, energy regeneration, and the tick rate of your bleeds and poisons.
  • Mastery: Increases the damage of your bleeds and poisons.
  • Versatility: Increases all damage done and reduces damage taken.

Assassination Rogue Phials in Dragonflight

Overall the best phial for Assassination Rogues is  Phial of Elemental Chaos. However, you might get more damage out of  Phial of Glacial Fury in AoE situations.

There are other phials that may simulate higher DPS in certain situations, such as  Phial of Charged Isolation,  Iced Phial of Corrupting Rage, or  Phial of Static Empowerment. The issue with these are that their buffs are conditional with various "negative" effects that could ruin the damage values from them. For that reason, we don't recommend these for general use cases. While they may perform better in niche situations, you will want to make this decision for yourself from boss to boss.

There are a couple different potions that have different useful scenarios for Assassination Rogues:

You'll want to use one  Inscribed Illimited Diamond, and fill the rest of the slots with  Sensei's Neltharite or  Sensei's Alexstraszite.

Assassination Rogue Rotation and Priority

The Assassination Rogue opener is different than many classes, as it will require you to repeat some of the abilities you're casting for optimal damage.

  8.  Exsanguinate before  Deathmark to avoid reducing the duration of  Deathmark
  10. On Use Trinkets
  11.  Mutilate to 5+ Combo Points
  13.  Envenom at 5+ Combo Points or on Echoing Reprimand empowered combo points with Resounding Clarity talented
  14. After the empowered  Garrote finishes  Vanish to reapply a new empowered  Garrote

Assassination Rogue Single Target Rotation and Priority

  1.  Envenom to maintain  Slice and Dice
  2. Apply  Serrated Bone Spike if the DoT is missing from the target
  3. Maintain  Garrote, casting from stealth when possible
  4. Maintain  Rupture
  5.  Echoing Reprimand on cooldown
  6.  Exsanguinate paired with  Deathmark only. Re-apply  Rupture and  Garrote, favoring  Vanish empowered  Garrote casts.
  7.  Deathmark on Cooldown, synced with  Vanish
  9.  Shiv to avoid overcapping charges
  10.  Serrated Bone Spike to avoid overcapping charges
  12.  Envenom to spend combo points
  13.  Ambush when possible to generate combo points
  14.  Mutilate to generate combo points

Assassination Rogue Multi Target Rotation and Priority

  1.  Garrote from stealth to use  Improved Garrote
  3.  Crimson Tempest for the bleed
  4.  Rupture if not sustaining energy
  6.  Rupture on targets that don't have  Rupture
  8.  Thistle Tea to avoid overcapping charges
  9.  Shiv for priority targets
  10.  Echoing Reprimand on cooldown
  11.  Garrote on targets without the bleed
  12.  Fan of Knives to generate combo points
  13.  Crimson Tempest as a filler past 6 targets
  14.  Envenom as a filler under 6 targets
