Through a comprehensive analysis, we aim to provide you with an insightful understanding of the Brewmaster Monk's potential in the world of Dragonflight.

Unleashing the Strengths:

  1. Stagger and Shuffle: The Brewmaster Monk's mastery over Stagger and Shuffle bestows upon them a guaranteed and smooth damage intake, regardless of whether it is physical or magical in nature. By transforming incoming damage into a damage-over-time effect, Brewmaster Monks have unparalleled control over their survivability, allowing them to mitigate and mitigate damage with unparalleled finesse.

  2. Agile Mobility: Mobility is a defining trait of the Brewmaster Monk, as they possess an impressive array of movement abilities. Through the swift maneuvers of Roll, the haste-inducing prowess of Tiger's Lust, and the ethereal transcendence granted by Transcendence, Brewmaster Monks effortlessly navigate the battlefield, ensuring they are always in the optimal position to protect their allies and neutralize threats.

  3. Tactical Repositioning: Brewmaster Monks possess a unique set of abilities designed to manipulate and reposition enemies. The impactful Clash disrupts enemy formations, while Hasty Provocation draws foes toward the Brewmaster Monk, redirecting their attention and enabling strategic control. Additionally, the Ring of Peace provides a tranquil sanctuary, granting moments of respite amidst chaotic battles.

  4. Versatile Crowd Control: The Brewmaster Monk's arsenal includes potent crowd control abilities that can turn the tide of battle. With Paralysis, they can temporarily incapacitate foes, rendering them helpless and vulnerable. The swift sweep of Leg Sweep allows for efficient area control, neutralizing multiple adversaries simultaneously.

  5. Cleansing Prowess: Through the purifying ability of Detox, Brewmaster Monks possess the means to remove harmful poisons and diseases, fortifying themselves and their allies against insidious afflictions.

  6. Empowering Auras: Brewmaster Monks emanate powerful auras that enhance both their own prowess and the abilities of their allies. With Windwalking, they grant a swiftness that allows for expedient movement, while Generous Pour imbues allies with increased versatility. The Close to Heart aura engenders a profound resilience, bolstering the Brewmaster Monk and their comrades.

  7. Mystic Touch: Brewmaster Monks are the sole source of the coveted Mystic Touch debuff, a powerful asset that they share with their fellow Monk specializations, inflicting vulnerability upon their enemies and facilitating the success of their entire group.

Confronting the Weaknesses:

  1. Fragile Health Pool: Brewmaster Monks possess the lowest base Health pool among tank specializations, rendering them vulnerable to sustained damage-over-time effects. Vigilance and strategic planning are crucial to mitigate this inherent weakness and ensure the Brewmaster Monk's survivability in the face of relentless assault.

  2. Complex Keybinds: The Brewmaster Monk's diverse toolkit necessitates a significant number of keybinds, requiring adept management and a deep understanding of their abilities. Mastery of the Brewmaster Monk's arsenal demands a commitment to honing your muscle memory and ensuring swift execution during intense encounters.

  3. Limited Self-Sustain: Outside of the healing offered by Expel Harm, Brewmaster Monks have relatively limited self-sustain capabilities. Relying on the support of healers and effective cooldown management is essential to maintain resilience and longevity in prolonged battles.

  4. Intuitive Playstyle: The Brewmaster Monk's playstyle can initially prove unintuitive, demanding a learning curve to fully grasp their mechanics and execute rotations flawlessly. Mistakes can be unforgiving, underscoring the importance of practice, patience, and continuous improvement.

  5. Tracking Stagger: Monitoring the Stagger effect, a cornerstone of the Brewmaster Monk's survivability, can present challenges with the default user interface. Implementing addons or WeakAuras becomes vital to ensure accurate tracking and precise decision-making in the heat of battle.

Unveiling the Arsenal of Dragonflight: An Array of Classic and New Abilities

In the realm of Dragonflight, the Brewmaster Monk emerges with a multitude of classic tools that have been restored, alongside new tricks to enhance their arsenal. Brewmaster Monk Changes in Patch 10.1

Overall, Patch 10.1 remains a relatively quiet one for Brewmaster Monks. Although they have gained access to what was once exclusively a Mistweaver Monk talent in the form of Song of Chi-Ji Icon Song of Chi-Ji, it is located as a choice alongside the much more useful Ring of Peace Icon Ring of Peace. Beyond that, no significant tuning was made to Brewmasters as a whole, nor were any talents massively adjusted outside of the removal of the Incendiary Breath Icon Incendiary Breath PvP talent.

Basics of playing a Brewmaster Monk

Being a tank specialization, your main job is to stay alive at all times and to ensure that enemies are not attacking your other group members. Brewmaster Monks accomplish the first task by immediately delaying all damage taken with the help of their Stagger Icon Stagger passive, improving its power with the help of Shuffle Icon Shuffle, and negating some of that delayed damage with Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew or other effects. In addition, plenty of potential damage is dodged entirely with the help of their Mastery, Mastery: Elusive Brawler Icon Mastery: Elusive Brawler.

As for keeping the attention of enemies, a Brewmaster Monk converts their Energy into abilities such as Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash, Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm, and Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick that both deal damage and help improve the power of Stagger Icon Stagger. Woven into this relationship of dealing damage to reduce damage taken are several abilities with no cost that work with other parts of the kit, such as Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick allowing them to dodge more attacks, Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire setting enemies hit by Keg Smash on fire, or instantly killing most enemies with Touch of Death Icon Touch of Death!

Brewmaster Monk Talent

Basic Rotation for Brewmaster Monks

  1. Cast the Bonedust Brew Icon Bonedust Brew ability when available.
  2. Cast the Weapons of Order Icon Weapons of Order ability when available.
  3. Cast Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash when available.
  4. Cast Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire when available.
  5. Cast Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick when available.
  6. Cast Rising Sun Kick Icon Rising Sun Kick when available.
  7. Cast Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm, if you have 65+ Energy, against one target.
  8. Cast Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick, if you have 65+ Energy, against multiple targets.
  9. Cast Expel Harm Icon Expel Harm if you are dropping in health.
  10. Cast Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew or Dampen Harm Icon Dampen Harm if you are about to take a large amount of damage, Diffuse Magic Icon Diffuse Magic if you are taking heavy MagicMagic damage, or Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox Icon Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox if your Stagger Icon Stagger is particularly high.

You should make sure to not spend so much Energy on Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm that you cannot cast Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash when it is available. Following these steps will make sure you do as much damage as you can, and have enough Brews to maintain a solid defense.

Shuffle and Brew Usage

It is very important to always have Shuffle Icon Shuffle active, so you take less damage up-front. You gain time on Shuffle by casting Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash, Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick, and Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick. If you are using the default UI, you can easily monitor the time left on your Shuffle by looking at the icon outlined in purple:

You can use Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew to get rid of damage you have Stagger Icon Staggered. The level of Stagger on the default UI is shown above, outlined in red. The more the bar is filled, the more damage you are taking. Remember though, it is equally important to maintain uptime on Shuffle Icon Shuffle so that your damage taken stays smooth as you Purify what you can.

After you have purified a bit, use Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew to absorb a large amount of damage taken for a short period of time.

Optimizing the Defensive Brewmaster Monk: Unveiling the Secondary Stat Priority

As a Brewmaster Monk dedicated to bolstering your defensive capabilities, understanding the intricacies of secondary stat prioritization becomes paramount. While item level reigns supreme in terms of overall effectiveness, the allocation of secondary stats—Versatility, Mastery, Critical Strike, and Haste—can significantly impact your defensive prowess. Allow us to shed light on the optimal path to fortifying your defenses and maintaining a steadfast resilience in the face of adversity.

Item Level: A Foundation of Strength

First and foremost, the importance of item level cannot be overstated. As a Brewmaster Monk, your primary goal is to maximize your overall stats, as a higher item level translates to increased Stamina, Armor, and primary attributes such as Agility. Embrace the highest item level gear available to you, as the cumulative benefits of additional stats will often outweigh the nuances of specific secondary stat allocations.

The Virtue of Versatility, Mastery, and Critical Strike

Versatility, Mastery, and Critical Strike emerge as the triad of secondary stats that bear equal defensive value for Brewmaster Monks. Each of these stats contributes to your ability to mitigate damage and enhance survivability. However, the relative importance of these stats may vary based on personal playstyle, encounters, and gear.

Versatility embodies adaptability, increasing your damage reduction and self-healing, while also augmenting the damage you inflict. Mastery, on the other hand, empowers you with exceptional Stagger effectiveness, reducing the damage intake from both physical and magical attacks. Critical Strike enhances your offensive potential, delivering potent blows and providing occasional healing through Gift of the Ox.

While these three secondary stats hold similar defensive value, it is crucial to consider your personal preferences and adapt them to suit your playstyle. Experimentation and self-assessment will guide you towards the ideal balance that aligns with your tanking objectives.

The Agile Tempo of Haste

Haste, though still relevant, assumes a lesser priority compared to Versatility, Mastery, and Critical Strike when optimizing for defense as a Brewmaster Monk. Haste hastens your energy regeneration and reduces the cooldowns of your abilities, enhancing your overall agility and fluidity in combat. While Haste contributes to your mobility and rotational fluidity, it may not provide as significant of a defensive impact as the other secondary stats. Thus, when selecting gear and optimizing for defense, prioritize items that minimize Haste allocation.

Exceptions in Jewelry Slots

Jewelry slots present a unique scenario in secondary stat prioritization for Brewmaster Monks. Since these slots do not boast the presence of Agility or Armor, the focus shifts towards minimizing Haste allocation. In these instances, prioritize items that offer the least amount of Haste while still bolstering your overall defensive capabilities. By consciously managing Haste in your jewelry selections, you can fine-tune your defensive attributes to align with your preferred stat distribution.

Forge Your Defense, Brewmaster Monk

In the boundless realm of the Brewmaster Monk, the intricacies of secondary stat prioritization weave a tapestry of resilience and survivability. Embrace the blessings of item level, allowing your power to surge through the cumulative effects of increased stats. While Versatility, Mastery, and Critical Strike stand as beacons of defense, adapt their proportions to harmonize with your personal playstyle and encounters. Meanwhile, maintain a watchful eye on Haste, giving it due consideration but ensuring its allocation does not compromise your desired defensive attributes. Forge your defense with purpose and precision, emerging as an indomitable force that embraces the challenges of Dragonflight with unwavering resolve.

Unleashing the Offensive Prowess of the Brewmaster Monk: Unlocking the Secondary Stat Priority

As a Brewmaster Monk seeking to unleash devastating offensive power, understanding the optimal allocation of secondary stats becomes paramount. With Versatility, Critical Strike, Mastery, and Haste at your disposal, mastering their prioritization will empower you to strike fear into the hearts of your adversaries. Allow us to guide you through the intricacies of secondary stat prioritization, enabling you to maximize your offensive potential and emerge as a formidable force on the battlefield.

Versatility and Critical Strike: A Formidable Duo

Versatility and Critical Strike form the vanguard of offensive secondary stats for Brewmaster Monks, sharing equal importance in bolstering your damage-dealing capabilities. These stats work in harmony to amplify your offensive output and imbue your attacks with lethal precision.

Versatility offers a myriad of benefits, including increased damage dealt, damage reduction, and self-healing. By embracing this versatile stat, you enhance your survivability while simultaneously augmenting your offensive prowess. The versatility of Versatility makes it a potent asset, allowing you to adapt to various combat scenarios and deliver devastating blows to your adversaries.

Critical Strike, on the other hand, emphasizes the art of striking at vulnerable points, dealing amplified damage with each successful critical hit. This stat not only enhances your offensive potential but can also trigger healing through the Gift of the Ox mechanic, providing invaluable self-sustain during intense encounters.

Balancing Mastery: The Art of Damage Mitigation

While Versatility and Critical Strike take the forefront in offensive prioritization, Mastery remains a crucial secondary stat for the Brewmaster Monk. Mastery empowers you with exceptional Stagger effectiveness, reducing the damage you absorb from both physical and magical attacks. By honing your mastery over this stat, you enhance your damage mitigation capabilities, allowing you to withstand the onslaught of your foes with greater resilience.

Mastery strikes a delicate balance between offense and defense, bolstering your survivability while still contributing to your overall offensive potential. As a Brewmaster Monk, your mastery over this stat will dictate your ability to mitigate damage effectively, ensuring your offensive onslaught remains unhindered.

Haste: A Supporting Role

While Versatility, Critical Strike, and Mastery take precedence in offensive prioritization, Haste assumes a supporting role in enhancing your rotational fluidity and agility. Haste accelerates your energy regeneration, reduces the cooldowns of your abilities, and increases your attack speed, providing a subtle boost to your offensive capabilities.

Though Haste holds value in enabling swift and responsive gameplay, it is not as vital to your offensive output as Versatility, Critical Strike, and Mastery. Consider Haste as a supplementary stat, ensuring it remains balanced with your primary offensive priorities.

Unleash Your Offensive Potential, Brewmaster Monk

Dear disciples of the Brewmaster Monk path, armed with insights into the secondary stat priority, you stand poised to unleash unparalleled offensive power. Embrace the harmonious combination of Versatility and Critical Strike, leveraging their versatile and precision-striking capabilities. Balance your mastery over Stagger, seamlessly blending offense with defense. And let Haste support your agility, keeping your rotations fluid and swift.

With a deep understanding of secondary stat prioritization, you possess the knowledge to maximize your offensive potential and become an unstoppable force on the battlefield. Unleash your fury, strike fear into the hearts of your adversaries, and leave a trail of victorious conquests in your wake. The path to offensive supremacy as a Brewmaster Monk awaits you—embrace it with unwavering resolve and unwavering fists.

Armor: The Resolute Shield of Defense

In the realm of tanking as a Brewmaster Monk, the stalwart presence of Armor stands as an essential defensive stat. While Armor is inherent to the gear you acquire, understanding its significance and leveraging its defensive value becomes paramount on your path to becoming an indomitable guardian. Join us as we delve into the resilience and protective prowess granted by Armor, illuminating its crucial role in fortifying your defenses.

The Intrinsic Nature of Armor

Armor, in its essence, is the physical embodiment of protection, shielding your Brewmaster Monk from the relentless onslaught of physical attacks. It is a fundamental attribute found in most pieces of gear, with higher item level pieces offering a greater magnitude of this essential stat.

Fortifying Your Defenses

Armor plays a crucial role in mitigating incoming physical damage, reducing the overall impact suffered by your Brewmaster Monk. The higher your Armor rating, the more effectively you can resist and diminish the blows inflicted upon you. As a result, your survivability and ability to withstand sustained physical assaults are significantly enhanced.

Synergistic Harmony: Armor and Stamina

While Stamina bolsters your health pool, Armor works in tandem with this attribute, providing an additional layer of defense. The combination of high Stamina and substantial Armor ensures that your Brewmaster Monk possesses a resilient foundation, capable of enduring the most relentless barrages of physical damage.

The Pursuit of Higher Item Level

With Armor being a default attribute on most gear pieces, the pursuit of higher item level becomes a paramount objective for the Brewmaster Monk. By equipping higher item level gear, you naturally increase the amount of Armor at your disposal. This cumulative effect fortifies your defenses, enhancing your damage mitigation capabilities and bolstering your overall survivability.

Armor: A Cornerstone of Defense

Dear defenders of the Brewmaster Monk path, embrace the steadfast presence of Armor as you navigate the tumultuous battles that lie ahead. Recognize its crucial role in mitigating physical damage and fortifying your resilience. Seek out higher item level gear to augment your Armor, ensuring that you stand as an impervious bulwark against your adversaries.

Armor, alongside Stamina and other defensive attributes, forms the foundation upon which your Brewmaster Monk's defenses are built. Harness its protective embrace, secure in the knowledge that you are armed with the resolute shield of defense. Let your enemies tremble as they witness your indomitable fortitude and unwavering determination on the path of the Brewmaster Monk.

Navigating the Realm of Diminishing Returns: Understanding its Impact on Brewmaster Monks

As your Brewmaster Monk ascends to greater heights of power, reaching higher item levels and accumulating significant amounts of secondary stats, the concept of diminishing returns comes into play. While it is essential to comprehend the impact of diminishing returns on your Brewmaster Monk, it is equally important to recognize that it does not render your desired stats irrelevant. Allow us to shed light on the nuances of diminishing returns, providing clarity on its effects and emphasizing the continued significance of stat prioritization.

Defining Diminishing Returns

Diminishing returns refer to the phenomenon where the marginal benefit gained from increasing a particular stat diminishes as that stat reaches higher levels. In simpler terms, the impact of each additional point in a specific stat becomes less significant as you approach certain thresholds.

Thresholds for Brewmaster Monks

For Brewmaster Monks, these diminishing returns thresholds vary among the different secondary stats. It is important to note that these thresholds apply specifically to the stat ratings themselves, rather than the overall impact of the stats on your performance.

In the case of Brewmaster Monks, the diminishing returns thresholds are as follows:

  • Haste: Diminishing returns begin around 30%.
  • Versatility: Diminishing returns become noticeable around 30%.
  • Mastery: Diminishing returns start to manifest around 38%.
  • Critical Strike: Diminishing returns become evident near 40%.

It is crucial to understand that these thresholds are not absolute limits but points at which the benefits of further stacking that particular stat start to diminish. However, reaching these thresholds does not render the stat ineffective or useless. The overall impact of the stat on your performance remains significant, and stacking beyond these thresholds can still provide valuable contributions to your offensive and defensive capabilities.

Special Considerations

It is important to note that certain temporary effects, such as the 30% Haste boost from Bloodlust, do not contribute to the diminishing returns calculations. These effects are treated independently and do not count against the thresholds mentioned earlier. As a result, the temporary boosts granted by external sources do not negatively impact your stat allocation strategy.

Personal Variation in Diminishing Returns

The impact of diminishing returns on your Brewmaster Monk's stats may vary depending on the gear upgrades you acquire along your journey. Depending on the specific combination of items and their associated stats, you may never reach these thresholds for certain stats. It is crucial to evaluate and prioritize your stats based on your individual gear composition and the desired balance between offense and defense.

Striking the Balance: Optimal Stat Prioritization

While the concept of diminishing returns underscores the importance of thoughtful stat allocation, it does not negate the significance of prioritizing the stats that align with your playstyle and objectives. Versatility, Critical Strike, Mastery, and Haste all contribute unique benefits to your Brewmaster Monk's performance, and finding the right balance among these stats remains essential.

Maintain a comprehensive understanding of your desired stat priorities, adapting them based on the thresholds of diminishing returns. By striking the optimal balance, you ensure that your Brewmaster Monk remains a force to be reckoned with, maximizing offensive potential and fortifying your defenses while navigating the realm of Dragonflight.

Embrace the Complexity, Brewmaster Monk

Dear devoted Brewmaster Monks, as you traverse the realm of diminishing returns, embrace the intricate dance of stat prioritization. Understand the thresholds, but do not allow them to overshadow the essence of your desired stats. Tread the path that aligns with your playstyle, objectives, and gear composition. Embrace the dynamic nature of optimizing your Brewmaster Monk's stats, always seeking the delicate balance between offense and defense.

Harness the wisdom of stat prioritization, adapt as the journey unfolds, and let your Brewmaster Monk stand as a testament to the true potential that lies within. With a keen eye and unwavering resolve, navigate the complexities of diminishing returns and emerge as an unstoppable force within the legendary saga of Dragonflight.

Brewmaster Monk Stats: Getting a Better Understanding

Critical Strike increases your chance to deal double damage or healing on most of your spells. Moreover, thanks to Celestial Fortune Icon Celestial Fortune, your Critical Strike also gives you an increased chance for any healing you receive to heal for an additional 65%. Celestial Fortune also increases the size of absorbs on you — such as Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew — by 65% of your Critical Strike chance.

Haste increases your Energy regeneration rate, lets you autoattack faster, and reduces the cooldown on Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind, Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash, and Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew.

Versatility increases all your damage and healing done, and decreases all damage taken.

Your Mastery (Mastery: Elusive Brawler Icon Mastery: Elusive Brawler) grants you a stacking buff that increases your chance to dodge, which lasts for 10 seconds or until you successfully dodge an attack. Your Mastery also passively increases your Attack Power. Higher Mastery means a greater dodge chance with each stack of the buff and more Attack Power. Attack Power also increases your healing from Gift of the Ox Icon Gift of the Ox.

Agility increases your Attack Power, dodge chance, Stagger Icon Stagger percentage, and even your self-healing. For the most part you do not need to concern yourself with how much of this stat you have, as it should always be increasing as you opt for higher-item-level pieces to equip.

Most encounters have abilities that cannot be mitigated or avoided. Also, you need to have a decent amount of health, in order to give yourself the chance to be healed before a subsequent attack kills you. As such, you need a minimum amount of Stamina. This amount will, in most cases, simply come from the Stamina found innately on your gear. Therefore, item level is the determining factor in keeping your health pool growing.

Do not worry too much about your Stamina. Brewmasters naturally have low health. However, more Stamina will increase the damage of your Touch of Death Icon Touch of Death since it is based on your max Health.

Best Gems, Enchantments, and Consumables for Brewmaster Monks

You should ideally make use of Radiant Alexstraszite Icon Radiant Alexstraszite or Radiant Malygite Icon Radiant Malygite in all of your sockets for a balance between offense and defense, along with one Inscribed Illimited Diamond Icon Inscribed Illimited Diamond/Resplendent Illimited Diamond Icon Resplendent Illimited Diamond.

Remember that the effects of Primordial Stones include options for more damage, healing, defense, and even some additional utility, such as increased movement speed. Because of this, there is a lot of flexibility in choosing which 3 stones you wish to socket into your Onyx Annulet Icon Onyx Annulet. With that being said, listed below are some of the most desirable stones along with their general use-case:

In general, it is recommended to use the Desirous Blood Stone Icon Desirous Blood Stone in combination with the Prophetic Twilight Stone Icon Prophetic Twilight Stone and Freezing Ice Stone Icon Freezing Ice Stone for most situations, swapping out the latter for the Storm Infused Stone Icon Storm Infused Stone in AoE scenarios such as Mythic+. If you prefer a defensively-oriented approach, you can consider the Indomitable Earth Stone Icon Indomitable Earth Stone and Cold Frost Stone Icon Cold Frost Stone, but remember that their effects are random and likely will not activate at the times when you need their help the most!

Best Enchants for Brewmaster Monks

Note that due to varying qualities and prices existing for most enchants that will impact their strength, it may be worthwhile to instead use an appropriate "Writ" enchant rather than a "Devotion," so long as it provides the same baseline effect.

Slot Enchantment
Weapon (2h and dual-wield main-hand)
Weapon (dual-wield off-hand)

As a Brewmaster Monk, stats are so close together for defensive value that you are largely free to use other stat enchants on rings if you prefer them. Meanwhile, for weapon enchants, Enchant Weapon - Shadowflame Wreathe Icon Enchant Weapon - Shadowflame Wreathe or Enchant Weapon - Frozen Devotion Icon Enchant Weapon - Frozen Devotion are the preferred choices for most content, with Enchant Weapon - Sophic Devotion Icon Enchant Weapon - Sophic Devotion offering a minor defensive benefit instead. If seeking even more damage, you should consider simulating your character.

Best Phials and Potions for Brewmaster

Phial of Glacial Fury Icon Phial of Glacial Fury should be used in most situations. Although it only provides damage, its effects are noticeably more potent than other alternative phials. You may also wish to use Phial of Tepid Versatility Icon Phial of Tepid Versatility as a more generic choice that also provides a slight defensive benefit and is specifically better in single-target damage. Fortunately, you may also obtain two of any phial you choose with access to a Draconic Phial Cauldron Icon Draconic Phial Cauldron.

Refreshing Healing Potion Icon Refreshing Healing Potion acts as your healing potion. Each use will incur a 5-minute cooldown, but multiple can be consumed in an extended boss fight.

In addition, a Warlock's Healthstone Icon Healthstone does not share a cooldown with other healing consumables. Remember to use it as well if you are holding one!

Finally, Alchemy offers a number of utility potions, including those that can be used while you are dead! While not every potion will be listed, you should at least keep a small number of Residual Neural Channeling Agent Icon Residual Neural Channeling Agent on you to use while you have an available potion and are waiting for a battle resurrection.

Mastering the Brew: Common Mistakes and Strategies for Brewmaster Monks

As a Brewmaster Monk, the path to mastery is filled with challenges and pitfalls that can hinder your effectiveness as a tank. The unique nature of the Brewmaster specialization, with its emphasis on mitigating constant damage over time through Stagger, sets the stage for common mistakes that new players to the specialization may encounter. In this section, we highlight these mistakes and provide strategies to help you recognize and overcome them, ensuring that you stand as a true master of the Brew.

  1. Underestimating the Significance of Stagger: One of the most common mistakes made by new Brewmaster Monks is underestimating the importance of Stagger in damage mitigation. Stagger is a unique mechanic that transforms incoming damage into a damage-over-time effect, allowing for gradual dissipation. Failing to fully grasp and manage Stagger can result in overwhelming damage and reduced survivability.

Strategy: Take the time to understand the mechanics of Stagger and its interaction with your abilities. Monitor your Stagger debuff and utilize your Purifying Brew to cleanse it when necessary. Properly managing Stagger ensures a smoother damage intake and improves your overall survivability.

  1. Neglecting Brew Management: Brewmasters rely on the delicate balance of their brews—Ironskin Brew for damage reduction and Purifying Brew to remove Stagger. Neglecting the management of these brews can lead to suboptimal damage mitigation and reduced effectiveness as a tank.

Strategy: Develop a keen sense of brew management. Prioritize using Ironskin Brew during periods of high incoming damage and Purifying Brew to cleanse excessive Stagger. Regularly monitor your brew charges and cooldowns to ensure they are utilized effectively for maximum damage mitigation.

  1. Misusing Defensive Cooldowns: Brewmaster Monks possess a range of powerful defensive cooldowns to mitigate damage during intense encounters. However, using these cooldowns haphazardly or failing to optimize their usage can lead to wasted resources and decreased survivability.

Strategy: Develop a strategic approach to defensive cooldowns. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of each cooldown and identify optimal moments to activate them. Coordinate with healers and anticipate periods of high damage to maximize the effectiveness of your defensive arsenal.

  1. Inefficient Energy Management: Brewmasters rely on energy for their abilities, and inefficient energy management can result in gaps in your rotational flow and reduced threat generation.

Strategy: Focus on maintaining a smooth energy flow by utilizing your abilities efficiently. Avoid energy capping and plan your rotations to ensure a steady resource usage. Practice proper energy management to maximize your damage output and threat generation.

  1. Ignoring Crowd Control Abilities: Brewmaster Monks possess potent crowd control abilities, such as Paralysis and Leg Sweep, which can provide invaluable support in controlling and neutralizing dangerous enemies.

Strategy: Recognize the significance of your crowd control abilities and incorporate them into your tanking strategies. Utilize Paralysis to temporarily disable key enemies or Leg Sweep to stun multiple foes, buying precious moments for your group to regain control of the battlefield.

  1. Neglecting Positioning and Threat Management: Effective tanking involves maintaining control of enemy positioning and generating sufficient threat to keep their attention focused on you. Neglecting proper positioning and threat management can lead to chaotic encounters and jeopardize the safety of your group.

Strategy: Prioritize positioning enemies to optimize your defensive capabilities and ensure the safety of your group. Focus on generating and maintaining threat through proactive use of your abilities. Master the art of threat management to establish yourself as an unwavering guardian of your allies.

  1. Overlooking Personal and Group Survival: While Brewmasters excel at individual survivability, it is crucial not to overlook the well-being of your group. Neglecting to coordinate defensive cooldowns with your healers or failing to support your allies in critical moments can undermine the overall survivability of your group.

Strategy: Foster strong communication with your healers and coordinate defensive cooldown usage to maximize overall group survivability. Be proactive in supporting your allies with Windwalking, Guard, and other utility abilities. Strive for a collective defense that ensures the survival and success of your entire group.

Mastering the Flow: Effective Shuffle and Brew Management for Brewmaster Monks

Among the common mistakes made by Brewmaster Monks, misusing their Brews stands out as a crucial area for improvement. The Brewmaster's unique playstyle revolves around reducing damage after it has been transformed into Stagger, maintaining Shuffle uptime, and strategically utilizing Purifying Brew. By focusing on efficient Shuffle and Brew management, you can optimize damage reduction and maintain control over incoming damage. Let us explore strategies to address this vital aspect of Brewmaster Monk gameplay.

  1. Prioritize Shuffle Uptime: Shuffle plays a pivotal role in smoothing out damage intake for Brewmaster Monks. Allowing Shuffle to drop off can result in sudden spikes of damage from each enemy attack, making it harder for healers to keep up and reducing the effectiveness of Purifying Brew.

Strategy: Ensure 100% uptime on Shuffle by regularly using Keg Smash and Blackout Kick, which refresh the duration of Shuffle. These abilities should be prioritized in your rotation to maintain constant damage reduction and enable healers to predict and manage your incoming damage more effectively.

  1. Optimize Purifying Brew Usage: Purifying Brew is a powerful tool for reducing Stagger and mitigating damage. Proper management of Purifying Brew charges is essential to strike a balance between maintaining necessary mitigation and maximizing damage reduction.

Strategy: Aim to keep at least one charge of Purifying Brew available for sudden spikes of damage. However, avoid having both charges sitting off-cooldown for an extended period. Strike a balance by using charges opportunistically during moderate Stagger (Yellow) to prevent wasting charges and to maintain control over incoming damage. Monitor your Stagger levels and anticipate when the next big moment to Purify is approaching, ensuring efficient usage of charges in between.

  1. Harness Celestial Brew Effectively: Celestial Brew provides a valuable absorb shield, enhancing your survivability when utilized properly. Its usage is more straightforward compared to Purifying Brew.

Strategy: Utilize Celestial Brew on cooldown, taking advantage of the increased absorb granted by stacks of Purified Chi generated by regularly using Purifying Brew. However, consider the timing and intensity of incoming damage. If you have a substantial absorb shield during a period of relatively low damage, it may be more efficient to delay Purifying Brew to prevent the excess shield from expiring unused. Balance the timing of Celestial Brew with the ongoing damage intake to maximize its effectiveness.

  1. Strike a Balance: Effective Shuffle and Brew management require striking a delicate balance between mitigating damage and maximizing damage reduction.

Strategy: Cultivate a deep understanding of encounter mechanics and incoming damage patterns. This knowledge will help you anticipate moments of increased damage and plan your Shuffle and Brew usage accordingly. Maintain open communication with your healers to synchronize your defensive abilities with their healing strategies, fostering a cohesive approach to damage mitigation.

Embrace the Mastery of Brew, Brewmaster Monk

Dear aspiring Brewmaster Monks, by addressing common mistakes in Shuffle and Brew management, you unlock the true potential of your tanking prowess. Embrace the importance of maintaining Shuffle uptime to smoothen damage intake. Optimize the usage of Purifying Brew, finding the balance between charge utilization and anticipation of significant damage spikes. Harness Celestial Brew effectively, capitalizing on its absorb shield in alignment with incoming damage patterns. Strive for a harmonious balance that ensures your survivability while enabling your healers to support you optimally.

Mastering the Flow: Effective Energy Management for Brewmaster Monks

As a Brewmaster Monk, managing your Energy effectively is crucial for maintaining a smooth rotation and maximizing your damage output. While it's common for players to make the mistake of overusing Tiger Palm or Spinning Crane Kick, understanding the importance of Energy distribution and optimal ability usage will elevate your gameplay. Let's delve into strategies for efficient Energy management and overcoming common pitfalls.

  1. Prioritize Keg Smash: Keg Smash is a cornerstone ability for Brewmaster Monks, dealing significant damage and reducing the cooldown on your Brews. Ensuring that Keg Smash is cast as soon as it comes off cooldown is essential for maximizing your damage potential.

Strategy: Structure your rotation to prioritize Keg Smash. Aim to have enough Energy to cast Keg Smash immediately when it becomes available. This may require pacing your other abilities to ensure sufficient Energy reserves.

  1. Limit Tiger Palm and Spinning Crane Kick Usage: Overusing Tiger Palm or Spinning Crane Kick can lead to Energy shortages and disrupt your rotation, impacting your overall performance.

Strategy: Between each Keg Smash, limit your usage of Tiger Palm or Spinning Crane Kick to two or three times at most. These abilities should fill the gaps between Keg Smash casts. Focus on using other rotational abilities, such as Blackout Kick, Breath of Fire, and Rushing Jade Wind (if talented), to optimize Energy expenditure.

  1. Optimize Global Cooldown Usage: Efficiently utilizing your global cooldowns ensures that Energy is not wasted and that you maintain a steady rotation flow.

Strategy: Fill the remainder of your global cooldowns with abilities like Blackout Kick, Breath of Fire, and Rushing Jade Wind (if talented). These abilities provide valuable damage and utility while effectively utilizing your available Energy. Avoid the temptation to spend extra Energy on non-essential abilities.

  1. Consider Talent Choices: Tailoring your talent choices can alleviate Energy management challenges and enhance your overall performance.

Strategy: If you consistently find yourself struggling with Energy shortages, consider the talents Black Ox Brew and Rushing Jade Wind. Black Ox Brew can refill your Energy and Brews in critical moments, providing a resource boost when needed. Rushing Jade Wind, if talented, fills empty globals, reducing the temptation to spend extra Energy unnecessarily.

  1. Practice Awareness and Adaptation: Developing a keen sense of Energy management requires practice, awareness, and adaptability to different encounter situations.

Strategy: Stay mindful of your Energy levels throughout encounters. Pay attention to cooldowns, mechanics, and periods of increased or decreased damage to optimize your Energy expenditure. Adapt your rotation and ability usage based on the specific demands of each encounter.

Embrace the Harmonious Flow, Brewmaster Monk

Dear Brewmaster Monks, by honing your Energy management skills, you unlock the true potential of your rotational flow. Strategic Choice: Tiger Palm or Spinning Crane Kick for Brewmaster Monks

When it comes to the decision between Tiger Palm and Spinning Crane Kick, Brewmaster Monks are faced with a strategic choice that depends on the situation at hand. While the general rule is to use Spinning Crane Kick when facing multiple targets, it's important to consider the impact on your Brews' cooldown reduction. In most cases, using Tiger Palm more frequently is recommended unless you encounter difficulties in maintaining threat against multiple targets. Let's delve into this decision-making process and provide further insights for Brewmaster Monks.

  1. Tiger Palm and Brew Cooldown Reduction: Tiger Palm plays a crucial role in reducing the cooldown of your Brews, making it a valuable ability in your rotation.

Strategy: Prioritize using Tiger Palm more frequently to ensure consistent reduction of your Brews' cooldowns. By utilizing Tiger Palm, you maintain a smoother flow in your rotation while simultaneously benefiting from the reduced cooldowns on essential Brew abilities.

  1. Spinning Crane Kick and Multi-Target Scenarios: Spinning Crane Kick excels in situations where you are facing multiple targets, dealing damage to all enemies within range.

Strategy: In encounters where you face multiple targets, consider using Spinning Crane Kick to efficiently damage and maintain threat against them. This ability allows you to engage with multiple foes simultaneously, aiding in crowd control and area-of-effect damage.

  1. Balancing Threat Generation and Cooldown Reduction: While Spinning Crane Kick may be effective for multiple targets, it's important to strike a balance between threat generation and the reduction of Brew cooldowns.

Strategy: Evaluate the encounter and assess the threat generation required. If you are experiencing challenges in maintaining threat against multiple targets, prioritize using Spinning Crane Kick more frequently. However, if threat generation is not a concern, lean toward using Tiger Palm to optimize Brew cooldown reduction and enhance your overall rotation flow.

  1. Adaptation to Encounter Demands: Each encounter presents unique challenges and demands, requiring adaptive decision-making for optimal performance.

Strategy: Remain adaptable and attuned to encounter mechanics and group dynamics. Consider the specific requirements of each encounter, including target count, threat management, and overall damage output, to guide your choice between Tiger Palm and Spinning Crane Kick. Communicate effectively with your group to ensure a cohesive approach to encounter strategy.

Embrace the Versatility, Brewmaster Monk

Dear Brewmaster Monks, by understanding the nuanced decision between Tiger Palm and Spinning Crane Kick, you unlock the versatility of your abilities. Prioritize Tiger Palm to maintain Brew cooldown reduction and a smooth rotation flow. Utilize Spinning Crane Kick in multi-target scenarios to efficiently damage and control multiple foes. Strike a balance between threat generation and cooldown reduction, adapting your decision-making to the demands of each encounter.

Through dedicated practice and a keen understanding of encounter dynamics, you will emerge as a Brewmaster Monk capable of seamlessly adapting to any situation, be it single-target or multi-target encounters. Embrace the strategic versatility at your disposal and let your presence reverberate through the annals of Dragonflight.

Blessings of Resilience: Harnessing the Power of Gift of the Ox Orbs

As a Brewmaster Monk, the presence of small yellow orbs known as Gift of the Ox Orbs is an invaluable asset in your quest for resilience. These orbs manifest when you endure damage, serving as a source of healing that can provide crucial support during intense raid encounters. By understanding their mechanics and implementing strategic approaches, you can harness the healing potential of these orbs to bolster your survivability. Let us explore the significance of Gift of the Ox Orbs and strategies for effectively utilizing them.

  1. The Healing Power of Gift of the Ox Orbs: When you suffer damage, small yellow orbs materialize to your sides. These orbs serve as healing sources, replenishing your health when you pass over them.

Strategy: Be vigilant in spotting and collecting these orbs. In raid situations, where damage intake can be high and healers may be occupied, the Gift of the Ox Orbs become invaluable. Utilize them to supplement your healing and mitigate the impact of sustained damage. Even if orbs expire, they will still heal you for their normal amount.

  1. Orb Collection: Each Brewmaster Monk can have up to five active Gift of the Ox Orbs at a time. Collecting these orbs promptly is essential to maintain their healing benefits.

Strategy: Monitor your orb count by observing the number displayed on your Expel Harm icon. This indicator provides a quick assessment of the orbs present. Consider strafing left to right strategically, allowing you to traverse the orbs and collect them when necessary. While strafing may appear unconventional, do not disregard its effectiveness during moments when you require immediate healing.

  1. Expel Harm: Expel Harm is an ability that allows you to instantly collect all your Gift of the Ox Orbs, regardless of their distance from you. This ability offers a convenient means of orb collection and can provide additional benefits beyond healing.

Strategy: Assess the situation and determine the most appropriate approach for collecting orbs. If you require a substantial amount of healing or need to gather orbs scattered at a distance, utilize Expel Harm to instantly retrieve them. Keep in mind that Expel Harm has an Energy cost and a cooldown but rewards you with a small amount of damage alongside the healing it provides.

  1. Strafing for Effective Healing: Strafing, or moving laterally from side to side, can be a strategic approach to collecting Gift of the Ox Orbs when you require only a moderate amount of healing.

Strategy: Evaluate your healing needs and the intensity of the damage you are experiencing. If you require a smaller healing boost, strafing can be more efficient than using Expel Harm. This technique allows you to gather orbs selectively while conserving Energy and keeping Expel Harm available for critical moments.

Embrace the Blessings, Brewmaster Monk

Dear Brewmaster Monks, the Gift of the Ox Orbs represent a wellspring of healing that can bolster your resilience during challenging encounters. Recognize the value of these orbs and strive to collect them diligently. Incorporate strafing techniques, Expel Harm, and situational judgment to maximize their effectiveness. Embrace the unconventional and let the healing blessings of the Gift of the Ox Orbs flow through you.

Through practice, awareness, and an unwavering commitment to your role as a guardian, you will harness the true potential of these orbs, ensuring your survivability in the face of adversity. Let the Gift of the Ox guide you, and may your path as a Brewmaster Monk be illuminated by the radiant glow of healing and strength.

Using Cooldowns

It is likely you are used to using Dampen Harm Icon Dampen Harm, Diffuse Magic Icon Diffuse Magic, and Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew when you need them, but there are other cooldowns available to you in a dungeon or raid setting: external ones from healers. If you are about to take a lot of damage from either a boss mechanic or accidentally letting your Shuffle Icon Shuffle drop, call for a specific external if you can! Healers will not always know the best time and may provide you with multiple at once if you just ask for help in general. This advice is mostly for those who play with a microphone and are comfortable using it, but it might be worth asking a healer beforehand to use a cooldown at a certain point. A list of these are:

  • Resto Druid: Ironbark Icon Ironbark (low cooldown damage reduction)
  • MW Monk: Life Cocoon Icon Life Cocoon (large absorb and increase in healing received)
  • Paladin: Blessing of Sacrifice Icon Blessing of Sacrifice (damage reduction, also harms the Paladin)
  • Disc Priest: Pain Suppression Icon Pain Suppression (strong damage reduction)
  • Holy Priest: Guardian Spirit Icon Guardian Spirit (saves you from damage that would have killed you, and increases healing received)
  • Preservation Evoker: Time Dilation Icon Time Dilation (essentially, a weaker form of Stagger Icon Stagger, but providing more defense against magic damage than Stagger alone would have)

Brewmaster Monk Single-Target Rotation

  1. Activate Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind before entering combat, and use Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave as you are moving to your target.
  2. Use Touch of Death Icon Touch of Death on an enemy if it can be used.
  3. Throw your Bonedust Brew Icon Bonedust Brew to hit both yourself and your targets. even if the enemy is already debuffed by an activation of Bountiful Brew Icon Bountiful Brew.
  4. Use Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash.
  5. Use Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire.
  6. Activate Weapons of Order Icon Weapons of Order.
  7. Use Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick.
  8. Use Rising Sun Kick Icon Rising Sun Kick.
  9. Throw Exploding Keg Icon Exploding Keg at your targets. Remember to follow it up with two casts of Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick to maximize the 3-second bonus damage window, and ensure Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind is active beforehand.
  10. Use your second charge of Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash to effectively "bank" partial recharge time when Keg Smash comes off cooldown in the middle of another ability's cast.
  11. Activate Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave.
  12. Use Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind to maintain its buff.
  13. Use Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm if there is nothing else to do, and you will still have enough Energy for your next Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash.

It is absolutely imperative that you save Energy to cast Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash on cooldown, as this is a large source of damage and the main source of both cooldown reduction for your Brew-based abilities and Shuffle Icon Shuffle to empower your Stagger Icon Stagger.

Brewmaster Monk Multi-Target Rotation

Brewmaster is a somewhat unique specialization in that your rotation will mostly stay the same whether you are in single-target or multi-target combat.

  1. Activate Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind before entering combat , and use Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave as you are moving to your target.
  4. Use Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire.
  5. Use Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash.
  6. Activate Weapons of Order Icon Weapons of Order.
  8. Cast Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick.
  9. Cast Rising Sun Kick Icon Rising Sun Kick.
  10. Activate Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave.
  11. Use your second charge of Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash to effectively "bank" partial recharge time when Keg Smash comes off cooldown in the middle of another ability's cast.
  12. Use Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind to maintain its buff.
  13. Use Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick if you do not need more cooldown reduction on your Brews and will have enough Energy available by the time Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash is available. Use Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm instead if more Brew cooldown reduction is desired.

Although Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick deals enough damage to normally justify being a high-priority ability, it is too expensive on Energy to use when there are plenty of other abilities that are free.

Stagger and Active Mitigation

Brew Monks rely on a specific ability (Stagger Icon Stagger) to smooth out the damage they take throughout fights. This is a somewhat complex ability, and we will explain it in depth in the sections that follow.

In addition to dodging and parrying attacks, Brewmaster Monks have an additional means of mitigating the damage that they take, called Stagger Icon Stagger. This is a key element in your survivability as a tank, so it is important to understand it correctly.

Stagger causes Physical and Magic attacks made against you to have their damage split into two portions:

  • An instant portion, will immediately deal its damage to you in the moment of the attack.
  • A Stagger Icon Staggered portion, which does its damage to you in the form of a 10-second DoT.

The amount of Physical damage Staggered is based on your Agility, while only 45% of that amount applies to MagicMagic attacks. While you are Staggering damage, you will have one of three debuffs to represent how intense the DoT is: Light Stagger Icon Light Stagger, Moderate Stagger Icon Moderate Stagger, and Heavy Stagger Icon Heavy Stagger. If you are in Heavy Stagger, then that means you are taking at least 60% of your Maximum Health as damage over those 10 seconds. However, you are likely to regularly exceed 100-200% of that amount in some forms of content!

Beyond that, the division between the instant and Staggered portions of damage your damage taken depends on other factors, namely whether or not you have the High Tolerance Icon High Tolerance talent — which increases the Staggered portion — and whether or not you have Shuffle Icon Shuffle or Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew with the special Fortifying Brew: Determination Icon Fortifying Brew: Determination talent active.

As you might have noticed, Stagger Icon Stagger does not by itself provide any form of damage reduction, mitigation, or avoidance. This is where Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew comes into play. Purifying Brew has 2 charges with a 20-second recharge time, and using it instantly removes 50% of the Staggered damage (the damage you are due to take over the next 10 seconds).

A simple example, assuming a Stagger Icon Stagger amount of 40%, is as follows:

  1. An attack of 1,000 Physical damage is performed against you.
  2. 600 damage is dealt to you instantly.
  3. A DoT is applied to you, which deals 400 damage over 10 seconds.
  4. You cast Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew after 2 seconds, removing 50% of the DoT's 320 remaining damage.
  5. After 10 seconds, you have sustained 600 instant damage and 240 in Stagger Icon Staggered damage. The remaining 160 damage has been removed by Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew.

The other ability that has a close interaction with Stagger Icon Stagger and Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew is a passive called Shuffle Icon Shuffle. This buff increases the amount of damage you Stagger, and you are given 5 and 3 seconds of it when you Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash or Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick, respectively. Shuffle can be extended until it reaches 15 seconds. Note, however, that Shuffle has no impact on "old" damage you have already Staggered, instead affecting new damage you take while the buff is active.

Finally, there is one more ability that indirectly works with your Stagger Icon Stagger: Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew. Although the absorb it provides for only 8 seconds may seem small at first, it can be increased to up to three times its original size with the Improved Celestial Brew Icon Improved Celestial Brew talent! This is caused by the buff Purified Chi Icon Purified Chi, which you will gain stacks of from every use of Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew: One stack gained from Purifying while at Light Stagger Icon Light Stagger, two stacks from Purifying in Moderate Stagger Icon Moderate Stagger, and three from Heavy Stagger Icon Heavy Stagger. Each stack increases the size of your next Celestial Brew shield by 20% per stack, going up to +200% at the stack cap of 10.

It is important to remember that the recharge time of Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew — along with the remaining cooldowns of Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew and Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew — are reduced by 1 second each time you use Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm and by 3 seconds each time you use Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash.

Managing Shuffle, Purifying Brew, and Celestial Brew

The hardest part of playing a Brewmaster Monk is remembering to maintain 100% uptime on Shuffle Icon Shuffle while trying to find the best time to make use of Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew and Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew. The latter two abilities have extremely valuable effects, but they, at first, have long periods between uses; however, as you continue to perform your rotation, their cooldowns will be substantially reduced. As such, you have to find an appropriate time to use them without letting the abilities sit off-cooldown and waste the cooldown reduction effects your rotation is naturally providing.

Fortunately, Shuffle Icon Shuffle is not too hard to keep up, nor is the decision on which Brew to use and when too complicated. So long as you are following the Single-Target or Multi-Target priorities above, you should have more Shuffle time than you are using. As for your usage of Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew, there is a fairly simple set of rules to follow:

  • Do not have both charges of Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew off-cooldown.
  • Keep one charge available for an emergency.
  • Use a charge as the second charge is about to come off cooldown.

You may notice that this set of rules more or less involves you pretending that the ability has only one charge instead of two. This is intentional due to how frequently Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew will be available during your standard rotation. What this also means is that there may be times where you end up having to purify in only Light Stagger Icon Light Stagger or Moderate Stagger Icon Moderate Stagger rather than heavy, and that is okay so long as you still have that second charge ready for a sudden spike of damage.

By having access to an abundance of Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew usage, you will also have built up plenty of stacks of Purified Chi Icon Purified Chi from Improved Celestial Brew Icon Improved Celestial Brew to give you larger Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew absorbs. As a result, this ability is also best used on cooldown. It will usually be better to create more shields over time rather than possibly wasting both Purified Chi stacks and cooldown reduction. There is one small thing to consider, however. You may not want to Purify any Stagger Icon Staggered damage if you will not take enough to eat away at the entire absorb. Since Celestial Brew's shield only lasts for 8 seconds, any amount of absorption afterward is effectively wasted. Since this absorb can soak up any damage — including Stagger — you can think of it as a stronger form of Purifying Brew.

If nothing else, you only need to remember to never let your Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew or Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew be unused and off-cooldown.

Talented Active Ability Usage

There are potentially eight different active abilities that need to be considered in the rotation priority that can be chosen among your talents, and many provide very different effects.

  • Rising Sun Kick Icon Rising Sun Kick should essentially be used on cooldown. Although it does not directly interact with any defensive parts of the Brewmaster kit, it deals plenty of damage and has no cost, making it an excellent ability to avoid running out of Energy.
  • Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave is another ability with no cost that will just be used on cooldown. Its "smart" nature will choose to bounce to injured allies over those with full health.
  • Chi Burst Icon Chi Burst also has no cost, but a longer cooldown than Chi Wave Icon Chi Wave and exists as a secondary choice. While less useful in single-target, it has decent value in AoE and still allows you to dodge while casting.
  • Summon White Tiger Statue Icon Summon White Tiger Statue allows you to place a statue anywhere within 40 yards that will pulse damage over a 30-second period. Due to this ability having a massive two-minute cooldown despite its somewhat low damage, you should aim to place it near enemies that will survive for at least 30 seconds to maximize its damage potential.
  • Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind allows you to passively deal damage around you and has no Energy cost to maintain, so long as you remember to regularly activate the ability due to its low cooldown.
  • Exploding Keg Icon Exploding Keg operates as one of the few tools of burst available to Brewmasters. This is due to its secondary effect of dealing bonus damage on direct hits to targets that were originally hit by the ability for a 3-second window. Due to how this ability interacts with both Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind and Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick, it is possible to achieve 10 or more additional hits to an enemy during this time.

Weapons of Order

While Weapons of Order Icon Weapons of Order does reset the cooldown of Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash, bear in mind that only resets the cooldown of one charge if using the Stormstout's Last Keg Icon Stormstout's Last Keg talent. In addition, there is functionally little difference in how you apply the bonus damage debuff. So long as Keg Smash and Rising Sun Kick Icon Rising Sun Kick are being used on cooldown, you can largely ignore the bonus damage effect, as it will not cause a major change in rotation, nor will it buff the damage of trinkets or consumables. At most, you should aim to cast Exploding Keg Icon Exploding Keg while your enemies have four stacks of the increased damage taken debuff.

If you are making use of the Call to Arms Icon Call to Arms talent, then you need to make one small adjustment to your playstyle: you should not cast Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox Icon Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox if a copy of your celestial is already present from activating Weapons of Order Icon Weapons of Order. This is because the two celestials will be drawing from the same pool of recently-purified Stagger Icon Stagger damage when Improved Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox Icon Improved Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox is talented, resulting in lower Stomp Icon Stomp damage than if you had spread out their uses.

Bonedust Brew

Bonedust Brew Icon Bonedust Brew's effect to replicate damage and healing effects also applies to your own self-healing, such as Expel Harm Icon Expel Harm, Gift of the Ox Icon Gift of the Ox, and even Celestial Fortune Icon Celestial Fortune. Because of this, you should try to also hit yourself with the ability on each cast to provide a nice source of additional healing. This replication also applies to abilities that deal damage-over-time like Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind and Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire.

When making use of the Bountiful Brew Icon Bountiful Brew talent, be aware that you may still safely cast Bonedust Brew Icon Bonedust Brew at any time, as its duration will simply be added to the current debuff's, up to a total of 20 seconds. By doing this, and with a little luck, it is possible to maintain Bonedust Brew for over 30 seconds at a time!

Cooldown Usage for Brewmaster Monk

As a Brewmaster, you have a number of talented defensive abilities with long cooldowns. You also have two offensive cooldowns that also provide some defensive effects as a bonus. Compared to the reactive nature of Purifying any Stagger you have built up with the help of Shuffle Icon Shuffle, these cooldowns are best used before you have taken damage in the first place.

  • Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew should be used whenever you are about to take a large amount of damage. Alternatively, it can be used as an emergency cooldown when your health is low, although it is less effective used in this way.
  • Zen Meditation Icon Zen Meditation allows you to greatly mitigate the damage abilities with a cast time deal in particular, since the cast time allows you to time Zen Meditation perfectly. Alternatively, it can reduce the first melee attack or boss ability that hits you while channeling it.
  • Diffuse Magic Icon Diffuse Magic is a powerful defensive cooldown that you can use counter magic damage in particular. One of its more unique effects is the ability to both dispel and reapply a variety of potent magic debuffs to enemies.
  • Dampen Harm Icon Dampen Harm is a survival cooldown that you can use to mitigate the damage from powerful boss attacks. It is most useful if used preemptively. A further breakdown of its damage reduction can be found in the Spell Summary.
  • Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox Icon Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox takes on a portion of the damage you are Stagger Icon Staggering during the time he is present while also dealing a small amount of damage. If you are not making use of the Improved Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox Icon Improved Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox talent, then this damage is negligible, and the cooldown's defensive bonuses are more useful to consider.
  • Touch of Death Icon Touch of Death is to be used when an enemy's Health is low enough to allow it. While the damage it deals will also remove a portion of your Stagger Icon Stagger, you are usually using it against something that is nearly dead and cannot harm you anymore. This cooldown is, therefore, more useful offensively, but you may rarely be able to plan around its defensive benefit as well.

Best Items to Upgrade for Brewmaster Monks in Dragonflight Season 2

Given the near-universal nature of gear upgrades in Patch 10.1, it can be difficult to figure out what items you should invest your limited amounts of Shadowflame Crests in each week. As the decision will ultimately be based on what items you have been able to obtain, listed below are some guidelines and "wishlist" items to upgrade as soon as possible:

  1. Bile-Stained Crawg Tusks Icon Bile-Stained Crawg Tusks and Forgestorm Icon Forgestorm — while both are weapons, you should ideally obtain one of each at a high item level and upgrade them as soon as possible for general use.
  2. Crafted gear, specifically Slimy Expulsion Boots Icon Slimy Expulsion Boots and Life-Bound Chestpiece Icon Life-Bound Chestpiece with a Toxified Armor Patch Icon Toxified Armor Patch — due to obtaining one Spark of Shadowflame Icon Spark of Shadowflame every two weeks in Patch 10.1, it is very beneficial to upgrade your chosen embellishment items for a surge of power in an area, you can completely decide. However, due to Elemental Lariat Icon Elemental Lariat having reduced power until you once again obtain fully-socketed gear, opt for your new-best embellishment instead, or for a crafted weapon if you do not wish to farm for the two mentioned above.

WoW Power Leveling Boost

Ideal Gear to Craft for Brewmaster Monks in Dragonflight:

Crafted gear provides a flexible option for Brewmaster Monks, allowing customization of secondary stats and potential embellishments. While the choice of crafted gear depends on the items obtained from other content sources, there are several items that are generally useful for all Brewmaster Monks. Consider the following recommendations:

  1. Slimy Expulsion Boots and Toxified Armor Patch: Crafted with Leatherworking, these boots offer a slight reduction in Haste in exchange for frequent bonus Nature damage to your target. The effects of these boots can be enhanced by wearing another crafted item with the optional Toxified Armor Patch embellishment. Crafting and upgrading these boots should be your first priority during Dragonflight Season 2.

  2. Armor and Accessories: Crafted pieces such as Life-Bound Chestpiece (Leatherworking) and Torc of Passed Time (Jewelcrafting) provide opportunities to obtain more desired secondary stats in equipment slots that may be challenging to find suitable alternatives for. These pieces can be valuable additions to your gear setup.

  3. Needlessly Complex Wristguards: Exclusive to Engineers, these bracers feature a unique tinker socket that allows for additional Engineering "gems" known as tinkers. The bracers have a single secondary stat and do not contribute to the 2-item cap on embellishments. Tinker options like Tinker: Arclight Vital Correctors, which enable a battle resurrection, can be added to these bracers.

  4. Weapons: Crafting weapons such as Primal Molten Longsword (Blacksmithing) provides a convenient power boost and allows for the addition of an embellishment of your choice, such as Fang Adornments or Potion Absorption Inhibitor.

  5. Elemental Lariat: Created through Jewelcrafting, the Elemental Lariat is a neck item with a unique embellishment effect. It grants extra secondary stats based on the gems socketed within. However, its strength is dependent on the number of sockets on your gear, so it's best saved for later when you have obtained every possible socket.

Additionally, Alchemical Flavor Pocket is worth mentioning. This item, obtained from the weekly Community Feast quest reward or the auction house, can be added to any crafted item without an embellishment. It provides a bonus for quality of life.

Consider these crafted gear options to enhance your Brewmaster Monk's performance and tailor your secondary stats to suit your preferences. Remember to weigh the benefits against other available gear options and your current progression in Dragonflight.
