Dragonflight Havoc Demon Hunter DPS Guide

Havoc Demon Hunter Overview

A dual-wielding, leather-clad dps specialization called the Havoc Demon Hunter combines quick AoE cooldowns with reliable DPS and great mobility. While our damage in single target is highly dependent on cooldowns, it is more consistent in cleave and AoE, where it relies on shorter rolling cooldowns with virtually always something to strike.

Due to the fact that they are a hero class, new Demon Hunters must be either Blood Elves for the Horde or Night Elves for the Alliance, and their starting level is 8 instead of 1. A solid spec for gamers who like high mobility dps with excellent self-sustain is Havoc Demon Hunter.

Havoc Demon Hunter Stats

For secondary stats, the Havoc Demon Hunter has the following:

  • Agility >= Critical Strike > Mastery = Haste > Versatility
  • Critical Strike: As all abilities can crit, this has the potential to increase our damage by a large amount. Havoc Demon Hunters have multiple Critical Strike interactions in their talents which can shift the value of the stat heavily.
  • Haste: This stat increases the proc rate of nearly everything in the game, aside from traits and trinkets that provide stats on proc. It also reduces the cooldown of some of our spells and reduces the global cooldown by up to a maximum of 100%, from 1.5 seconds down to 0.75 seconds. However, it continues to reduce other cooldowns beyond that as well as increasing proc rates with no limit, so it does not get significantly worse at any point.
  • Versatility: This stat provides a general increase to damage and healing done, as well as reducing damage taken at half the rate. It works against all forms of damage, so it is the most effective general purpose stat for damage reduction.
  • Mastery: This stat increases the chaos damage we do as well as our movement speed. The scaling is great on the stat but the share of our damage that is affected heavily relies on talent choices and AoE vs ST.

Havoc Demon Hunter Phials

Overall the best phial for Havoc Demon Hunter is  Phial of Elemental Chaos for safe play choice, or  Iced Phial of Corrupting Rage. It is worth noting that  Iced Phial of Corrupting Rage will sim better, but the curse effect is sometimes potent and in some scenarios it will not perform significantly better in DPS due to deactivating itself. In lower end gear  Phial of Glacial Fury may outperform your other phial options and you should rely on simulations for this.

Havoc Demon Hunter Combat Potions

There's really only one best combat potion option for Havoc Demon Hunter:

Havoc Demon Hunter Weapon Buff

For their weapons, Havoc Demon Hunter will always use  Buzzing Rune

Best Havoc Demon Hunter Food in Dragonflight

Best Havoc Demon Hunter Gems in Dragonflight

You'll want to use one  Inscribed Illimited Diamond gem and fill the rest with either  Sensei's Alexstraszite or  Crafty Alexstraszite depending on if you need more Mastery or Haste. If you have crafted and use a  Elemental Lariat then the gems you run will change, still using the  Inscribed Illimited Diamond but due to how the lariat proc functions, it will give the lower stat from your gems meaning you will want to re-gem ALL of your sockets with  Sensei's Neltharite for the Critical Strike proc.

Havoc Demon Hunter Rotation and Priority

Havoc Demon Hunter Opener

  1.  Sigil of Flame 2 seconds pre-pull
  2.  Vengeful Retreat Paired with Essence Break
  3. Continue regular priority

Havoc Demon Hunter Single Target Rotation and Priority

  1.  Death Sweep (Hold if  Essence Break cooldown is less than 3 seconds)
  2.  Vengeful Retreat Hold and pair with Essence Break if up within 10 seconds
  3.  Metamorphosis Have Eyebeam and Blade Dance/Death Sweep on Cooldown before casting
  4.  Blade Dance (Hold if  Essence Break and Eyebeam cooldowns are both less than 3 seconds)
  5.  Felblade if less than 70 Fury
  6.  Fel Rush For Momentum Buff

Playing around  Momentum
It is worth noting that when talented into  Initiative Unbound Chaos, and  Tactical Retreat that it is a dps gain to talent into  Momentum even if you do not play around the talent. For people that dislike the Momentum playstyle but planned on running the talents leading up to it, I recommend putting the point into momentum anyways and only casting Fel Rush when buffed by Unbound Chaos. Proper play around Initiative, utilizing The Hunt and casting your Unbound Chaos buffed Fel Rush will net damage windows from momentum when you mostly need it anyways.

Havoc Demon Hunter Multi Target Rotation and Priority

  1.  Death Sweep (Hold if  Essence Break cooldown is less than 3 seconds)
  2.  Eye Beam Pool 70+ Fury near the end of cooldown
  3.  Metamorphosis Have Eyebeam and Blade Dance/Death Sweep on Cooldown before casting
  4.  Blade Dance (Hold if  Essence Break and Eyebeam cooldowns are both less than 3 seconds)
  5.  Annihilation (during  Essence Break debuff only)
  6.  Throw Glaive If you will overcap otherwise
  7.  Felblade if less than 70 Fury
