Unlocking Gear Upgrades: You can enhance any piece of gear from the current season immediately upon acquisition, provided you possess the necessary materials, without the need for any additional unlocking process.

How to Upgrade Gear in Patch 10.2

Gear Enhancement in Patch 10.2: Identifying Upgrade Opportunities Any eligible gear for enhancement will feature a tooltip as illustrated below, displaying its upgrade level and progression stage. With each step, the item will gain either 3 or 4 item levels. You can preview all available upgrades by consulting an Item Upgrade NPC.

Requirements for Upgrading Gear

To initiate an upgrade for an item, you are required to expend both Flightstones and a specific crest, which will result in an increase in its item level. Each advancement consumes one crest and a varying quantity of Flightstones. The amount of Flightstones needed depends on the item's level and its slot; for instance, upgrading weapons typically demands a higher quantity of Flightstones compared to items like bracers or gloves. Furthermore, there are discount mechanisms in place that can lower the Flightstones and crest expenditure necessary for upgrading items.

Upgrade Locations

The upgrades can be done at any Item Upgrade NPC in the game. For Dragonflight, there are four main ones, listed below

Patch 10.1 introduced a new universal gear upgrade system to WoW. This system revolves around collecting Flightstones and Crests, allowing gear obtained in the current Dragonflight season to be upgraded a couple of item levels. Gear from Open World, Mythic+, Raid, and PvP can be upgraded using this system.

How to Unlock Gear Upgrades

You can upgrade any current season piece of gear when you obtain it as long as you have the required materials; no unlock is required.

How to Upgrade Gear in Patch 10.2

Any piece of gear that can be upgraded will have a tooltip like the ones below, showing an upgrade level and a progression step. For each step, the piece will gain 3 or 4 item levels. Upgrade Requirements

When upgrading an item, you must spend Flightstones and a certain crest to increase its item level. Each step will cost you one crest and a number of Flightstones. The number of Flightstones depends on the item level of the item and item slot, with weapons costing more Flightstones to be upgraded than bracers or gloves, for instance. There are discounts that reduce the number of Flightstones and crests required to upgrade items.

Upgrade Locations

The upgrades can be done at any Item Upgrade NPC in the game. For Dragonflight, there are four main ones, listed below

Item Upgrade Tracks

With this new system, each item you obtain will belong to a given track. This track limits how high you can upgrade a certain item, meaning you can no longer spam low keystone dungeons for items and upgrade them all the way to the max. The tracks are shown below.

• Explorer - Item level 415 to 437
• Adventurer - Item level 428 to 450
• Veteran - Item level 441 to 463

  • Keystone +2 to +8 End of Dungeon Loot
  • LFR Raid Items
• Champion - Item level 454 to 476

  • Keystone +9 to +16 End of Dungeon Loot
  • Normal Raid Items
• Hero - Item level 467 to 483

  • Keystone +17 to +20 End of Dungeon Loot
  • Heroic Raid Items
• Myth - Item level 480 to 489

  • Keystone +16 to +20 Weekly Reward
  • Mythic Raid Items

With this, any item that drops on the Veteran track can be upgraded all the way to 424, or any items on the Explorer track can be upgraded all the way to 398.

Discounted Upgrades

Upon upgrading or obtaining an item at a particular item level, subsequent upgrades for other items in the same slot to reach that specific item level will be subject to discounts. Flightstone Discounts

In a particular gear slot, once you acquire gear of a specific item level through either upgrades or drops, all subsequent upgrades will enjoy a 60% reduction in their Flightstone cost. This discount applies across your entire account. Notably, rings, trinkets, and one-handed weapons necessitate the possession of two items at a certain item level in order to unlock this discount.

Crest Discounts

In a specific gear slot, once you acquire gear of a designated item level through either upgrades or drops, all subsequent upgrades will be exempt from Crest costs. It's important to note that this discount does not apply account-wide. However, for rings, trinkets, and one-handed weapons, you will need to possess two items at a certain item level in that slot to unlock the discount.

How to Obtain Flightstones

 Flightstones are obtained from a multitude of activities. From completing events in open zones like the Emerald Dream or Zaralek Caverns, to completing Mythic+ dungeons, to killing raid bosses, or any current Season activity rewards  Flightstones. The number of Flightstones obtained depends on the difficulty of the content, with harder content rewarding more Flightstones.

No limits exist on how many Flightstones you can obtain in a given week, however, you can only hold 2000 at a time.

For Dragonflight Season 3, Blizzard decided to reset everyone's flightstones, giving them the equivalent in gold.

Using Flightstones for Profession Item Upgrades

Enchanters may use Flightstones to create  Titan Training Matrix V. A player must obtain  Empowered Flightstone, sold by Dustmonger Topuiz in Loamm (Zaralek Cavern) or any other Enchanting trainer. This item costs 150x  Flightstones.  Titan Training Matrix V allows crafters to empower their basic Dragonflight crafts to item level 382 to 395.

How to Obtain Dreaming Crests

Dreaming Crests can be obtained mainly from defeating raid bosses, completing higher-level Mythic+ dungeons, and Rated PvP. A limited amount can also be obtained from open-world activities. You can find your current number of Crests by looking at your currency tab.

  • Heroic Difficulty Raid Bosses
  • Mythic+ Dungeons between +11 and +15
•  Aspect's Dreaming Crest

  • Mythic Difficulty Raid Bosses
  • Mythic+ Dungeons +16 and above

Using Crests for Profession Item Upgrades

Enchanters may use Dreaming Crests to create Enchanted Crests. These crests can be used when crafting or recrafting items to empower them, allowing crafted items to reach up to item level 486.

Note that  Enchanted Whelpling's Dreaming Crest is used by Rare (Blue) recipes, unlike the other two. Blue recipes don't require Sparks to be crafted.
