Restoration Druid Overview

The ramp-based healing specialization of the Resto Druid entails the use of spells like Rejuvenation to anticipate damage and produce vast healing windows. Want to heal your tank more? Restoration Druid Stats

Intellect is our main primary stat, and is found on most gear, except rings and some trinkets.

For secondary stats, Restoration Druids have the following:

  • Intellect > Haste > Mastery > Versatility = Critical Strike
  • Critical Strike: Provides a chance to double the healing done by your spells. Crit doesn't tend to be very random for us since we have so many healing events that it evens out over a given fight.
  • Haste: Decreases the cast time of your spells, adds ticks to our HoTs, reduces the Global Cooldown (GCD). While we don't typically have many cast time spells, the extra HoT ticks and GCD reduction are the primary reason we value Haste. Haste breakpoints for our HoTs still exist, but they are generally irrelevant today because when you are in between these specific breakpoints, the HoT receives a partial tick that is added onto the regular tick. Most HoTs can be refreshed within 30% remaining of their original duration, allowing them to be extended without losing any healing. Haste also increases the number of Rejuvs you can have active at once which provides extra value to extensions like Flourish.
  • Mastery:  Mastery: Harmony is our mastery, awarding us additional healing on that target for each HoT we have active on them. It adds healing even when you just have one HoT on the target. We have a lot of different HoTs in our kit and mastery value tends to be quite high - particularly in small group content.
  • Versatility: A linear gain in outgoing healing and damage, as well as a reduction in damage taken. Versatility is generally of similar value to crit chance overall.

Restoration Druid Phials

You'll use  Phial of Elemental Chaos most of the time. In addition to a really nice stat buff you also get the following:

  • +2% healing on critical strikes while the Versatility buff is active.
  • +10% movement speed while the Haste buff is active.
  • +2% damage on critical strikes while the Crit buff is active.
  • -5% damage taken while the Mastery buff is active.

They cycle every 60 seconds so you're likely to see all of them during each boss attempt or dungeon.  Phial of Tepid Versatility is also very competitive and you can effectively pick whichever you prefer. The technically optimal choice will depend on your exact loadout, but you don't have to spend too much time thinking about it because the difference is extremely small.

In Mythic+ I'd recommend  Phial of Glacial Fury instead once you are comfortable with the dungeons. It does a ton of damage.

You'll carry a few different potions as Resto Druid:

You'll want to use  Keen Ysemerald or  Crafty Queen's Ruby (cheaper) where possible, however gem slots are extremely flexible. You can socket one "Primal Gem" and once you have a good place to put it I'd recommend  Fierce Illimited Diamond.

 

Restoration Druid Rotation and Priority

Healing Priority

  1. Keep  Efflorescence active as frequently as possible. Put down a new one if the raid group moves, though you can hold off if you expect more movement in the next 5-10 seconds.
  2. Cast Swifmend →  Wild Growth during downtime, aiming to pick up 3x stack of  Reforestation in between Convoke casts.
  3. When damage is coming in the next 12-15 seconds, start putting  Rejuvenations out across the raid. This is covered in more detail in the "how to use cooldowns" section below, but  Rejuvenation is our primary ramp spell and by learning the damage patterns of a given fight you'll be able to better line up your "ramp" and do more healing as a result.
  4. Aim to keep  Lifebloom on the tank or a priority target as often as possible. You can refresh  Lifebloom any time in the last 4.5 seconds of the buff to get the "bloom" effect so you don't have to let it drop to maximize it's healing.
  5. React to anyone dropping very low with  Nature's Swiftness +  Regrowth, or just  Regrowth if it's on cooldown. Try to avoid leaning too heavily into  Regrowths in general play. If you have a lot of  Abundance stacks (usually after a  Flourish ramp), or an  Omen of Clarity proc then feel free.
  6. Fill any free time with  Wrath (if it's a significant amount of time, then check the DPS rotation below).

Restoration Druid Damage Rotation and Priority

Caster based

Often used in raid where you can't spend a lot of time in a form.
  1.  Wrath will make up most of your damage casts in raid.
  2. Cast  Starsurge on cooldown during downtime.
  3. Add  Moonfire if you're running  Protector of the Pack, or if damage is of particularly high value for a given phase or boss.

When Mana is of no issue

  1. Maintain  Sunfire on all targets. Maintain  Moonfire on all targets.
  2. Cast  Starsurge if it's available.
  3. Cast  Thrash on 3+ targets, maintain  Rip and  Rake if possible, and if you've talented into them (you will in Mythic+, but less frequently in raid).
  4. If not: Fill with  Starfire on 2 or more enemies, or  Wrath if there are fewer.
