Destruction Warlock Overview

Destruction has always been known as a spec that excels at dealing large hits through  Chaos Bolt and very strong cleave damage through  Havoc.

Our main resource is Soul Shards, which we produce and use using a variety of tools from our toolkit. We have the option of using them to cast either  Rain of Fire, an AoE ability that deals damage over time, or  Chaos Bolt, a single target ability.

We have a reputation for being the Warlock spec that deals damage quickly and without the assistance of pets. That is still true today, despite the fact that we are well known for our iconic cooldown  Summon Infernal who is a powerful companion when used.

Destruction Warlock Stats

As a Warlock you'll be looking for Cloth gear with Intellect as your primary stat. Intellect increases your spell power and damage done on abilities.

For secondary stats, the Destruction Warlock has the following:

  • Intellect > Haste = Mastery >= Critical Strike >> Versatility
  • Critical Strike: Chance for extra effectiveness on attacks and heals.
  • Haste: Increases attack speed and spell casting speed.
  • Mastery: Your spells deal 8% additional damage, up to X%. Damage you take is reduced by 4%, up to X%.
  • Versatility: Increases damage and reduces damage taken by half the amount.

Destruction Warlock Phials

Overall the best phial for Destruction Warlocks is  Phial of Elemental Chaos. However, an alternate option would be to use  Iced Phial of Corrupting Rage despite the drawback effect of the phial. An alternate option to each phial is  Phial of Static Empowerment, however this requires you to be standing still to maintain the Primary Stat buff.

There are a couple different potions that have different useful scenarios for Destruction Warlocks:

You'll want to use a combination of  Keen Ysemerald,  Keen Neltharite in your gem slots. If you are using a Primalist gem the best option will be to slot it with a  Fierce Illimited Diamond.

 

Destruction Warlock Rotation and Priority

Destruction Warlock Opener

  1. Pre-cast a  Incinerate when there's 3 seconds left on the pull timer
  2.  Immolate so it lands on pull
  4. Use any on-use trinkets and DPS potion
  5. Apply  Havoc to a secondary target
  6.  Conflagrate to generate  Backdraft stacks. Try to use these stacks on  Chaos Bolt casts
  7.  Chaos Bolt to maintain  Eradication
  8.  Chaos Bolt if you're about to cap on soul shards
  9. Fill with  Incinerate

Destruction Warlock Single and Two Target Rotation and Priority

  1. Maintain  Immolate
  2. Apply  Havoc to a secondary target
  3.  Chaos Bolt to avoid capping on soul shards
  4.  Conflagrate if you have 2 stacks
  5.  Conflagrate to generate soul shards

Destruction Warlock Multi Target Rotation and Priority

  1. Maintain  Immolate on your main target
  2. Spend soul shards *(read spending priority at the bottom of the list)* to avoid capping
  3. Apply  Havoc to a secondary target
  6.  Rain of Fire - Is the best spender when there are:
    • 3 or more targets up. This changes to 5 or more enemies if you have  Havoc up.
    • You have to move and can't cast to avoid capping on soul shards.
  7.  Chaos Bolt - Is the best spender when there are:
    • Fewer than 3 enemies up. This is again 5 or fewer enemies if you have  Havoc up.
    • The targets might move out of your  Rain of Fire.
    • Some of the targets are low health and might die during your  Rain of Fire, bringing the amount of mobs down to less than 3.
    • There is a priority target that should be damaged down rather than dealing AoE damage.
