Aloalo Island Variant Dungeon: A Guide to Exploring its 12 Unique Routes

FFXIV Guide: 12 Routes of Aloalo Island's Variant Dungeon | Simple Carry

In the world of Final Fantasy XIV, dungeon runs typically involve a party of four adventurers navigating a predetermined path from start to finish. These dungeons often share a core design with little variation between them. However, the Variant Dungeon of Aloalo Island, introduced with Patch 6.51, breaks this mold.

Variant Dungeons offer Warriors of Light a refreshing departure from the usual linear dungeon experience. They present players with multiple options on how to proceed and which paths to follow. Depending on the choices made during a run, players receive a mark of completion in their V&C Dungeon Finder, indicating the routes they've conquered. Each run through a Variant Dungeon can lead to unique boss encounters and entirely new locations.

Aloalo Island, following in the footsteps of its predecessors, Sil'dihn Subterrane and Mount Rokkon, boasts an impressive 12 different routes for you to conquer. To earn an Aloalo Conservation Record in the V&C Dungeon Finder for a specific route, you must make distinct decisions during each run. Collecting all 12 Conservation Records will grant you an achievement, along with the coveted Spectral Statice mount as a reward.

With the V&C Dungeon Finder unlocked and the initial quests to access Aloalo Island completed, you're ready to embark on your adventure. Each run begins with a crucial decision – choosing one of three paths. The choices you make here will determine the final boss and storyline outcome, but Matsya, your Matanga companion, will offer route suggestions. Following his advice rewards you with an additional spoils chest later in the dungeon but does not impact the possible outcomes.

Below, you'll find a comprehensive list of all 12 Aloalo Conservation Records, along with the steps required to complete each one.

Conservation Record One: "A Not-Quite Deserted Island"

FFXIV Guide: 12 Routes of Aloalo Island's Variant Dungeon | Simple Carry

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the left path when presented with the initial decision.

  2. Engage and defeat enemies as they appear along the left path.

  3. Eventually, Matsya will pause to fish, and a dialogue option will be presented. Choose the option to press on and continue your journey.

  4. During the mini-boss encounter later in the dungeon, a Lalafell NPC will appear and be at half-health.

  5. Approach the group of enemies in the vicinity, but refrain from intervening. Allow the enemies to attack the Lalafell until his health reaches zero, causing him to flee.

  6. Once the Lalafell has escaped, defeat the remaining mobs in the area.

  7. Proceed to confront the final boss of this route.

Following these steps will ensure the successful completion of "A Not-Quite Deserted Island" and add this record to your collection in the V&C Dungeon Finder.

Conservation Record Two: "The First Settlers of Aloalo Island"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the left path at the initial decision point.

  2. As Matsya pauses to fish and presents you with a dialogue option, choose to continue pressing on with your journey.

  3. Similar to the first record, during the mini-boss encounter, a Lalafell NPC will appear and be under attack by enemies.

  4. This time, act quickly to protect the Lalafell from being defeated. You can achieve this by drawing the enmity (aggro) of all nearby mobs or using available healing actions to keep him alive.

  5. Ensure the safety of the Lalafell as you engage the enemies and prevent them from defeating him.

  6. Once the enemies are dealt with and the Lalafell is secure, continue your progress through the dungeon.

  7. Proceed to confront the final boss of this route.

Following these steps will lead to the successful completion of "The First Settlers of Aloalo Island" and add this record to your collection in the V&C Dungeon Finder.

Conservation Record Three: "God of Heaven and Sea"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the left path at the initial decision point.

  2. Keep progressing on this path until Matsya's intuition prompts him to fish for the first time.

  3. When presented with the option, select the second choice to allow Matsya to fish as much as he desires. This decision will trigger a short cutscene depicting the passage of time until sunset.

  4. After the cutscene concludes, continue along the available path.

  5. Eventually, Matsya will express the desire to fish again. You will have the opportunity to choose his bait.

  6. Interact with the pile of sand nearby to obtain the record for this route.

Following these steps will lead to the successful completion of "God of Heaven and Sea" and add this record to your collection in the V&C Dungeon Finder.

Conservation Record Four: "A Noxious Gift"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the left path at the initial decision point.

  2. Allow Matsya to fish without interruption until he is satisfied, triggering a cutscene.

  3. After the cutscene, a new route will open up. Follow this newly accessible path.

  4. As Matsya expresses the desire to fish again, you'll have the opportunity to choose his bait.

  5. Select the option to use the pile of rocks as bait and give the found item to Matsya.

Following these steps will lead to the successful completion of "A Noxious Gift" and add this record to your collection in the V&C Dungeon Finder.

Conservation Record Five: "The Roots of Arcanima"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these straightforward steps:

  1. Choose the middle path at the initial decision point.

  2. Keep moving forward without deviating from the path.

  3. After defeating the mini-boss located in the middle of the dungeon, you'll encounter a pack of mobs that includes a treant and worms. Additionally, you'll notice a large stone sigil on the ground.

  4. Be cautious not to interact with the stone sigil. Instead, defeat the pack of mobs away from the sigil to avoid potentially locking yourself out of the fifth Conservation Record.

  5. Once these enemies are defeated, continue following the established route without interacting with any other elements.

  6. Proceed until you reach the final boss of the dungeon.

Following these steps will lead to the successful completion of "The Roots of Arcanima" and add this record to your collection in the V&C Dungeon Finder.

Conservation Record Six: "Under the Boughs of the Great Tree"

FFXIV Guide: 12 Routes of Aloalo Island's Variant Dungeon | Simple Carry

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps, which are similar to those of the fifth Conservation Record:

  1. Choose the middle path at the initial decision point.

  2. Progress through the dungeon while staying on the main path.

  3. After defeating the mini-boss in the middle of the dungeon, you'll encounter a pack of mobs that includes a treant and worms, along with a large stone sigil on the ground. Ensure that you defeat these enemies away from the sigil, as interacting with it may affect your progress.

  4. Continue to the next pack of enemies, where you will notice a large bush with red flowers. Move through the bush to find a group of armadillos enjoying a snack.

  5. Approach the armadillos to scare them off, and then return to the main path.

  6. As you proceed, you'll encounter another red-flowered bush near the next pack of enemies. Repeat the process by moving through the bush to find another group of armadillos. Scare them away as well.

  7. With both groups of armadillos now dispersed, continue your journey along the main path, which will lead you to the final boss of the dungeon.

Following these steps will lead to the successful completion of "Under the Boughs of the Great Tree" and add this record to your collection in the V&C Dungeon Finder.

Conservation Record Seven: "A Dear Friend"

FFXIV Guide: 12 Routes of Aloalo Island's Variant Dungeon | Simple Carry

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps meticulously:

  1. Choose the middle path at the initial decision point.

  2. Proceed along the middle path until you encounter a group of worms and one treant.

  3. First, prioritize defeating the treant using single-target attacks. This step is crucial to prevent the treant from absorbing the magic needed to create the desired secret path.

  4. After defeating the treant, focus on the pack of worms.

  5. Position the pack of worms onto the large, circular stone sigil on the ground.

  6. As you defeat each worm on the sigil, it will glow and grow a new branch, unlocking the secret path.

  7. Follow the newly formed path to continue your journey.

  8. Upon advancing on this new path, you will reach an area where three inactive wood golems are stationed along with a pack of enemies. One of the wood golems is concealing a miqo'te behind it. Be cautious with your area-of-effect (AOE) attacks to ensure you do not damage the miqo'te.

  9. Over time, the wood golems will become active and hostile, prompting the miqo'te to flee. Defeat the wood golems and the remaining enemies in this area.

  10. Continue along the path until you reach the end of the route and complete this Conservation Record.

Following these steps meticulously will lead to the successful completion of "A Dear Friend" and add this record to your collection in the V&C Dungeon Finder.

Conservation Record Eight: "Fish for the Mind"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these specific steps:

  1. Choose the middle path at the initial decision point.

  2. Continue along the middle path until you encounter a group of worms and one treant.

  3. First, prioritize defeating the treant using single-target attacks to ensure it does not absorb the magic needed for the secret path.

  4. Once the treant is defeated, move the remaining pack of worms onto the large, circular stone sigil on the ground. Defeat these worms on top of the sigil to unlock the secret path.

  5. Follow the newly revealed path as it progresses.

  6. Upon reaching the area with the three inactive wood golems, you will also find a miqo'te hidden behind one of the golems. Here's where the deviation occurs:

    a. Damage the miqo'te with your attacks before she can flee. She will run away regardless, but you'll know you've succeeded if she comments on being spotted.

    b. If you successfully damage the miqo'te before she flees, the wood golems will remain inactive and will not become hostile.

  7. Continue your journey along the path until you reach the end of the route and complete this Conservation Record.

Conservation Record Nine: "A Familiar History"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the right path at the initial decision point.

  2. Continue along the right path, bypassing the first boss encounter.

  3. Keep progressing until you reach a dead end in the dungeon.

  4. At this dead end, a fairy will magically appear and offer her assistance.

  5. Choose the first option to agree to the fairy's help. She will create a teleportation portal for you to interact with.

  6. Take the portal provided by the fairy, which will transport you to a different part of the dungeon.

  7. Resume your exploration from this new location by continuing along the remaining path.

  8. Note that the fallen statues seen earlier in the dungeon before the mini-boss do not affect the outcome of this route. The boss you encounter later in this route utilizes totems in its battle, and the orientation of the statues only alters these mechanics.

  9. Proceed through the route until you reach the end and complete this Conservation Record.

Conservation Record Ten: "The Remnants of Faith"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these specific steps:

  1. Choose the right path at the initial decision point.

  2. Continue along the right path until you encounter a fairy who offers her assistance.

  3. Choose the second option to deny the fairy's help. She may try to convince you multiple times, but each time, select the second option to decline her assistance.

  4. Continue along the path, and you'll notice Matsya clearing a new route for you.

  5. Keep moving forward until you come across a group of suspicious chests in the middle of the route.

  6. Ignore the chests and proceed past them. This action will trigger the fairy to appear and clear the previously blocked path.

  7. Enter the chamber with three totems.

  8. Move towards the door in the chamber and locate the lever nearby.

  9. Open the door by pulling the lever, which will allow you to progress further.

Conservation Record Eleven: "A Lalafell or a Fish?"

To successfully complete this route and earn the Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these steps, which are similar to those of Record Ten:

  1. Choose the right path at the initial decision point.

  2. As you progress along the right path, you will encounter a fairy offering her assistance.

  3. Choose the second option to deny the fairy's help. She may attempt to persuade you, but consistently select the second option to decline her offer.

  4. Continue along the path, and you'll observe Matsya clearing a new route for you.

  5. Keep moving forward until you come across a group of suspicious chests in the middle of the route.

  6. Interact with any of the chests, revealing that they are, unsurprisingly, mimics.

  7. Defeat the mimics in battle.

  8. After defeating the mimics, continue following the available path.

  9. Reach the chamber with three totems and proceed towards the door.

  10. Open the door by pulling the nearby lever, allowing you to advance further.

Conservation Record Twelve: "Wellspring of Golden Memories"

FFXIV Guide: 12 Routes of Aloalo Island's Variant Dungeon | Simple Carry

To successfully complete this secret route and earn the final Aloalo Conservation Record, follow these intricate steps:

  1. Choose the right path at the initial decision point.

  2. When the fairy offers her assistance, deny it by choosing the second option.

  3. You can choose to interact with the chests along the path, but it's faster to ignore them and continue.

  4. Reach the room with the totem, which requires performing three separate rituals. You can complete these rituals in any order:

    a. Falcon Statue Ritual:

    • In the say chat, type "O dancer of the skies, hear me."
    • This will grant you a short buff window where you must complete the following steps:
      • Use the /blowkiss emote to show your sincerity to the deity.
      • Run clockwise around the center "island" once.
      • Return to the pad and perform the /dance emote to finalize the ritual and make the statue glow.

    b. Whale Statue Ritual:

    • In the say chat, type "O messenger from beyond the horizon, hear me."
    • This will give you another buff where you must complete the following steps:
      • Run clockwise around the statues once.
      • After your first lap, start where you ended on the whale statue's pad, and run in the opposite direction.
      • Perform the /dance emote to finalize the ritual and make the statue glow.

    c. Turtle Statue Ritual:

    • In the say chat, type "O wayfarer of land and sea, hear me."
    • With the buff active, run counter-clockwise around the statues twice.
    • When you return to the turtle's pad, perform the /bow emote.
  5. Once you have completed all three rituals, a new path will open in the center of the room.

  6. Follow this newly revealed path to a foggy area and defeat enemies along the way.

  7. A looter will eventually appear, and you must defeat him to obtain the requirements for the final step.

  8. Interact with the bag he drops to obtain three statues that depict the deities you performed rituals for.

  9. In the next room, you will find three pedestals to place these statues on. Place the falcon statue in the first, the whale in the middle, and the turtle furthest from where you arrived.

  10. When all statues are placed correctly, they will glow, allowing you to continue forward to face the secret boss of Aloalo Island.

Remember that the routes on Aloalo Island can be completed in any order, even though Conservation Record Twelve requires information from their descriptions. Upon completing the final Conservation Record in your V&C Duty Finder, you will obtain the achievement "Good-willed Hunting," which rewards the Spectral Statice Whistle to add to your mount collection.
